Website problem??

Starting last Thursday, if I try to open the forum website using IExplorer (ver 11.0.11, Windows 8.1), I get a small dialog box that says,

"Internet Explorer has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...."

and there's a moving bar across the bottom. After a couple of seconds, the bar and "Windows is checking" part goes away and it just says

"Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I don't seem to have any problems with any other website beside the forum.

Also, it works just fine using Google Chrome (I'm posting this using Chrome).

Any ideas? Is there something wrong with the forum's website or is it me?

Same here. I started using Google Chrome for this site and hadn't had any problems. I still have problems with the site on my smartphone but someday soon will switch it over to Chrome too.

I always have issues with IE crashing , anymore.

I notice it most on Windows 8 machines, but it does happen on 7, too.

I mainly run Firefox or Chrome now and IE, only if needed. :-)

I've been having the same problem, with Windows 7, and on *many* websites, not just this one.

I got an update last week and hadn't seen that message window again just....(sigh) just now while trying to post to this thread. grrrr

When it tries to find the problem then notifies you it can't, I just click the red x and close that window, then the site loads normally.

Don't know if my "complaint" caused someone to fix the forum's website or not, but it seems to be working today.

Thanks, whoever!

Well, it's Thursday again and I can't get on the website with IExplorer. I'm back to Chrome again.

Can any person associated with the website address this issue?

I can forward a message to the help desk unless you have done so already. I will also bring it up to the site team in the back room.

I haven't figured out how to delete cookies in this new IExplorer. You used to be able to right click on the icon to get to that, but not anymore.

I sent a message to the "Contact us" place at the bottom of the page.

Which IE are you using?

Not sure if this is the new IE but I have IE 11. And this is what I did:

> "Tools" (Upper right corner of screen in menu bar)
> "Internet Options"
> "Browsing History" (includes cookies)

Yes, I have IE 11.0.11, Windows 8.1. I got where you sent me (thanks), deleted history and cookies, but it did not fix the problem.

Maybe the help desk can figure it out.

Interesting it died both times on a Thursday!!??

Did you restart the computer afterwards?

I still get the security messages with IE. The more I use IE the more I like Chrome.

The history is not where the cookies live.

After you click the "Gear" icon, click "Internet options"
Click the "delete button"

Make sure there is a checkmark in "temporary internet files and website data"; "Cookies and Website Data"; AND UNCHECK "Preserve Favorites Website Data"

Reboot

Did all that. Didn't work. (Note: No gear icon under Internet Options. The only gear icon is if I go up to the upper right corner, then I get a number of icons, the gear one being the bottom one. It's labeled "Settings." If open that, there is a WiFi icon, it has the name of my WiFi in it. If I open it, there is no Internet Options there. It's up under Tools.)

As much as I like using IE I rather use Chrome here. So far I haven't noticed any of the issues I had with IE. Chrome is free so the price was right for me to give it a try.

One thing I like in IE over Chrome: In IE, all your favorites are shown in the favorites bar. Wan to go to a Favorites? Just click on it. In Chrome, you have to open another tab before you can see your favorites. So if you just want to go to a Favorites site, now you've got two tabs open instead of just one.

I got to agree with you on this. At first I found a lot of stuff were different between the two programs. The more I use Chrome the less different it is becoming but it will be a while before I am totally comfortable in Chrome.

I installed Chrome on two computers and each one functions differently. I'm sure the difference with the setups are from changing settings while exploring.

I have been have been having logoff issues when changing pages, new post, or using the quick search browser bar. Sometimes I can click the back arrow and it will show that I am still logged on but it is frustrating to have to keep logging back on when I really never left. I have Win10 and use Firefox for internet access. I am going to restart now since I just deleted my history and cookies but wanted to let you know about this issue. By the way this problem is also happening with my iPad gen2 for the past week or so.

I've had something similar to L. I would login and try to post or respond and I wouldn't be logged in... happened several times until I gave up. I use Win 8.1 and Chrome. Then a couple of days ago, I couldn't get to the website at all from my laptop. Not with IE, nothing would work.

I quit using Firefox, due to slowness and incompatibility with certain internet contents. Not that Chrome is that much better.

I could ping the IP from the command window (ping www.forestriverforums.com or ping 104.25.63.17), but not open the site. From that I knew my internet was up and the DNS server was functioning correctly... all the way to the other end.

I could get there from my Android and from another PC at the house. By that I knew the site was up and narrowed it down to my laptop. What I did to correct it was go into Chrome and reset back to factory defaults and all is better. Apparently MS pushed a update that also changed a setting. Got to love MS, with the sloppy way they do things.

So with Win10 there is MS edge. Has anyone used this one for site access? I haven't activated, maybe searched is a better term, with it yet. I'm just a little resistant to change I guess. You know if something is working why fix it mentality.
