What years have the water filter problem?

I see alot of posts but not sure what years have these problems or has it been fixed on later models. I have a Roo 21SS 2010 and it doesn't have the water filter installed although the previous owner has left a replacement one in the camper. I'm scared to death to even touch it.

It's an ongoing problem...use an outside filter instead. Ours is a 2014...first thing I did is pull it out, before ever running water through it.

Considering the Roo is such a great hybrid trailer otherwise what a shame.

2012.... And I haven't had an issue. However, I keep a look out for it to happen. This year, I used a camco outside, and purchased a Home Depot filter (2 for $8) to replace the expensive one inside....and had great tasting water this last trip. Again, no filter issues on our 2012 yet.

Never had a filter issue with my 2008 Shamrock 183. In fact, the filter would refuse to loosen at all - even with the wrench - unless I opened the kitchen faucet. It sealed that tightly.

The filter housing looks different on my new camper and I guess I have one of the filters that tends to unscrew. There is an arrow on the filter holder that is supposed to be lined up with the housing which I did and thus far I've noted no movement. It's not like the unit is on a spring, ready to fly apart. I put a piece of tape from the holder to the housing just in case.

What are the details on the label on the filter bowl? If it's a Water Pur CCI-10 filter assy, you should be fine. We've had no issues with ours in four yrs and hundreds of days pressurized.

My experience last weekend would lead me to recommend everyone to remove the cannister completely. It didn't unscrew...the housing had a hairline split which let water spray all over the pump compartment and leak into the bathroom. It's an early 2015 23ikss

We picked up our 2014 Rockwood 8289WS in Indiana in July 2013. In route home to California, the water filter detached (unscrewed) from the housing. No matter how tight it was screwed on, nor whether using the 12 volt water pump or shore water, it would simply come off. Stopped at a dealer in South Dakota and he said he had not seen this happen before. Getting it replaced under warranty was problematic (process too time consuming and we were on the road) and so I just paid him to remove and bypass it. Have used an external filter attached to our hose since with no problems. The original filter was also installed in a place making filter replacement difficult.

Agreed a bad spot to change. No issues here but according to the distributor at Goshen last summer the filter has to be installed in the filter head firmly and then the canister made wrench tight. Anything less than this it will loosen.

I've pulled my Rockwood Minilite 2104 over 12K miles in the 3 years I've had it. Two years ago we did a 7 week, 14 state, 8000+ mile trip. Never had a problem with the filter .... ever.

When doing the pre-delivery walk-around, the advisor (who happened to be the dealership owner) insisted that I get a water pressure regulator. He even gave me 50% off ... and it wasn't that much to begin with. He claimed uncontrolled water pressure could cause all sorts of problems and that you can't trust the water systems at parks. I've used it every time I've hooked up. Could non-use of a regulator be a contributing factor with this problem?

I believe that any possible problem in a hidden area that involves water leaking into the camper should be cause for concern... you COULD have a water problem caused by the filter and not even know it for hours or days... WHO needs THAT?

Get an outside filter at Walmart and repipe around that inside filter and be worried about one less thing.

Roocrew1 what is the item number or part number for those filters? Thanks

Make sure when you winterize to remove the plastic filter housing even if a small amount of water is left on the threads it may cause a hairline crack. My dealer pointed that out during the PDI. I also use a Camco filter that attaches to the campground hookup.

Yea, someone else who's as crazy as us!
We did the same thing but picked it is in Chicago.

Two things;

No such water filter issues in our 2007 23SS. Has worked for all the nearly 9 years we've owned it.

You should NEVER use city water hookups without a water regulator.

turning water filter housing

if you are replacing or elimiateing the element as we did ,it lasted 6 mo , release the pressure in the system before unscrewing the housing, it will make it easier to turn off

Another suggestion I have found helpful is to "grease" the top edge and locking threads of the canister with silicon plumbers grease before replacing the canister. This prevents the top seal from binding and reduces the "torque" required to attach and detach the canister. No problems so far.

2010 models should not have the problem with the water filter. My 2011 has behaved nicely through every filter change I have made.

Sorry edcronin01, don't have access right now to filters. They are HDX Brand, came in a 2 pack, and we're a middle of the road carbon filter. Between $8 and $10. They are color coded on the ends, according to filter level, and I can't even remember what color they are! Black? Again, they are definitely carbon filters.

ALSO...re "greasing" the O-ring in the filt. housing! 1) Inspect the ring for any damage or distortion first, okay? If in doubt keep a pack of them handy (cheap insurance) and replace with a new one if ... in ... doubt!
2) BE CAREFUL about what you "grease" it with!!! You want a food-grade lube in there and nothing else. Plumbers silicon sounds toxic and "if" it has any petroleum product in there you DO NOT want to ingest THAT, do you??? Even Petroleum jelly(aka Vaseline) is not good and also degrades the O-ring seal over time! Don't be tempted please (Mr DRiveWell, come on!)!

SO...the BEST ADVICE IS-

3) KY JELLY!! Is food safe and does it's job as it's designed...you KNOW what I mean, right? It remains ON the contact area's between the O-ring and the housing where it's needed and becomes water soluble elsewhere you slobbed it on.

Enough said? DO IT!

I just don't use the on board filter I bought one that I attach to the water hose and works great. One of the things I see posted once in a while is using the city water and using a water regulator and having to buy. Last few camper I bought all came with them. Don't know if FR provides these or the dealer. We always get a start up kit thrown in by dealer. And no its not part of prep fees cause they have none. Later RJD
