What's it called?

Okay, this is probably a silly question. While I'm busily planning lots of camping trips in the next year, I've wondered what you call a hybrid.

Is it a pop up? a travel trailer? Sometimes I see the choice "tent-trailer"; and I guess that's what it is. If there's no choice of a "tent-trailer" which one is best?

A hybrid is a travel trailer with tent ends. They are sometimes referred to as expandables.

For reservation systems, you would label it a travel trailer and give them your length once set up.

Or, was there another reason you were asking?

I agree.
Our county park when asked (because I see lots of Hybrids in the Tent/Popup only sites) stated a Hybrid is consider a Travel Trailer. Most people think they are still in the Popup category but are not.

I agree with Scott, except for making reservations at the campgrounds that don't allow ANY tent or tent type trailers.......like maybe Yellowstones Fishing Bridge RV Park where bears can make short work of canvas.

They specifically state hard-sided RV's only. So, even though you're technically a travel trailer, you may not be hard sided enough. LOL

We need our own category! Hybrid. I dream of a day when our campers will have their own classification and not be labeled partially one or partially another.

Okay, so it's a trailer except when camping in a no Pop Up campground? Isn't it true that Walmart parking lots won't allow canvas campers to spend the night? Just double checking.

There are no official Walmart rules of camping. There a lot of guidelines and some righteous few that have created a "Code of Conduct". I've heard stories of pop-ups and tents being used at Walmarts overnight. I've never seen it, so it's one of those vague "internet things".

The guidelines that I have read generally indicate that you want to look as much like you're parking and as little like you're camping as possible. The problem with hybrids in that is that your sleeping areas are deployed looking like camping.

As raspivey says- I can't imagine Walmart itself giving you grief.

I consider hybrids as TT's with pop outs, not pop ups. The majority of their exterior surface skin is hard sided.

we would never deploy our canvas ends in a Walmart parking lot! that's why hybrids are great, because you can "Turtle" in them.

but we would probably never stay overnite in a Walmart lot. nearly all of California's Walmarts ban overnite camping, due to city ordinances.

hybrids are an extremely niche market and not large in numbers, compare to other types of RV's.

tent trailer is NOT a hybrid. it's another term for popup camper. it seems to be used more out West than in other parts of the country. another term for popups is folding trailers.

we use travel trailer when making reservations and prefer back-in sites, since the rear bunk end can hang over the end of the pad, usually over a concrete bumper or log. and the front bunk end is about the same length as the A-frame.

Seriously? The front end is as long as the A frame? Is it possible to lower the front bed and stay hitched?

depends on which trailer, your tow vehicle and WDH but we have been able to.

I stayed hitched a couple of times when we had our 23SS. Edge of the front bunk was just above the tongue jack.

Another question ('scuze me for acting like a 3 year old):
How do they ship the trailers? I picture that Forest River will make a few 23iksses at once, then load them on a huge trailer and transport them to the southeast, stopping to drop off some here and there. Is that along the right lines of thinking?

They hire drivers with pickup trucks that tow them to their final destination.

Be advised if you are coming across i80 in pa. the Wally World in Clarion has banned over ngnight parking due to an 18 wheeler falling thru the parking lot.

We have camped several times with our 23IKSS still hooked up. For overnight stops it saves a lot of time. If the truck was sharp angle to the trailer, it would be an issue. But as long as the tv is reasonably straight, you shouldn't have a problem.
