FWIW I was taught here to use both. That's what I do.

I do both only out of habit. Since my wheel chock is from trailers long ago, I use them to setup and level, then I add the X chocks. I can't recall a cg that I've been to that the site would have really required both chocking methods.

Use both. Put the xchocks on last after setup and remove them first before hooking up. The X-chocks are for stabilization and the chocks are to prevent rolling.

Disagree... If the x chocks are tightned that trailer is going nowhere.......uses opposite forces on tires....

No wheels turning means the camper goes nowhere. X chocks only here.

When you raise or lower your tongue it causes the tires to rotate slightly. This puts a strain on the X-Chocks which are holding the tires immobile, or nearly so. This, I think, is the reason for not installing them until after leveling. That said, I used them for years and installed them before leveling, without a problem. I now have a Fastway One Step which I am evaluating. I did not think the X-Chocks were that effective at stabilizing the trailer, and the One Step is easier to install.

Please let me know what you find regarding the Fastway One Step. I am interested in either the X-Chocks or the One Step and would appreciate some real world feedback from someone who has used both, thanks!

Just from looking at the Fastaway and having the Bal X chocks, I will stay with the Bal. I know they work and positively lock the tires, whereas the Fastaway do not actually lock the tires, but just chock the tires.

When I was picking up my new 5er the tech saw a set of XChocks and told me that the new Lippert suspension the Xchocks will cause the tire alignment problems. He said majority alignment problems he has seen people were using XChocks.

If it cannot handle xchocks than I would hate to see it have a few hundred miles on some of these US roads...
Unless people are extremely over tightening them...

I used the X-Chocks on my Rockwood, which I sold, and the One Step on my Heartland, so it is hard to do a direct comparison. The X-Chocks lock the tires but are harder to install and you are supposed to chock first. I can't see any fore and aft movement with the One Step when people walk around in the trailer, so in that regard it seems to do the job. I don't you can expect any chocks to do any more than that to stabilize. I'm thinking of adding some scissor jacks just in front of the wheels to eliminate some of the bounce caused by chassis, spring and tire flexing.

I chock, then disconnect, then install the X-chocks.
No matter what you may do relative to the tires and wheels, you are still at the mercy of the suspension, which you can't "lock." The only thing you can do to deal with that is using stabilizers or jacks directly on the frame. That typically involves a larger expense and additional work to set up and take down.
So do whichever works best for you.

Do X-Chocks really help? I am thinking of getting a pair as I have heard one set isn't enough?

X2. x-chocks do make a very noticeable difference on the movement (rocking and sway) after they are tightened. I used 2 on my 21SS for 3 years and never had any issues. My new unit has the spread axle design so I'm interested to see if the xtended x-chock make it just as stable as the old style. If you do decide to buy them, check around as the prices vary widely. The dealer gave me pricing of $85 each for the xtended but I found them for $55 online through a google search. same goes for the regular x-chocks.

I think rather than spend $110, I would try to come up with a way to modify the regular ones to fit the spread axles, but that's just me being cheap!

The thought occurred to me but sold the old ones for $65 so the new ones didn't hurt my wallet so much.
