Whose Roo?

Me You & Roo - nice rig! saw you parked in Taco Bell east of Richmond on our way to Williamsburg. We are doing a guided bike tour for a Roads Scholar group to Yorktown, Jamestown and the Cap to Cap Trail. We were in the psycho-billy snow camo sketchomatic Dodge van pulling a bike trailer. Love your plates, hope you have a great trip!

I noticed the plate says permanent trailer.......Are there states where you pay your plate only once for as long you own your camper ??
Here in Maine they classify a travel trailer the same as a car and you pay the excise tax every year, which is a huge rip off. My new Roo cost me more than $400.00 last year.

When it comes to the "BMV" in regard to Trailer Tags there is No Rhyme or Reason, different states charge by weight, length, age, intended use,and anything else they can Dream Up! Youroo!!

In Michigan, all trailers (from utilities to TT to semi trailers) are licensed as permanent trailers. You pay for the plate when you get it and it is good for the life of the trailer or until you sell it.

Yes, here in Virginia you can purchase a perm. tag that is good for the life of the trailer.

In NY we receive a registration form each year (cars, trucks, trailers). My annual fee for the RV is $86.50 (I think that's based on weight since the weight (5,045) shows on the form. We have yet to send in the form since its still covered in the driveway. This means the cost will be pro-rated to 12/31/17.

Time to go to Canada!

Mine are only $48 a year. Doesn't matter size or weight. A travel trailer is a travel trailer.

Be careful where in Canada...lol

We were in Prince Edward Island a few years ago and talking with a resident. They have to take their trailers in for (and pay) an annual saftey inspection every year. They have to do the same with vehicles (even brand new).

PA has the same type of yearly inspections and it's a good thing.

When you see a car in PA with rust holes the size of basketballs, no back window glass with a couple of black hefty bags taped over it, and 4 tires worn to the cords with one of them a donut spare, it will have tags from another state where they have no annual inspection such as OH.
