Winterizing

I have drained water heater, low point drains and tanks. Closed bypass to water heater and I think I found the valve to shut off the fresh water tank. When I hooked hose to antifreeze outlet and turned on pump it pumped the antifreeze out the city water outlet. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? The manual is not very clear.

Antifreeze outlet? Not sure what you mean there...You need to suck the antifreeze into the input side of your 12v pump. On mine I just disconnect the water line on that side and connect a piece of hosing that I made. I put the other end of that hose in a gallon jug of antifreeze and suck/ pump it into the water lines. There should be a check valve on your city water inlet that blocks the water from leaking out of it when pumping out of your water holding tank. Look in the city water inlet and remove the screened washer, there should be a small button sticking out. maybe your check valve is stuck or malfunctioning. push that button, it should be spring loaded. Don't stand in front of it when you test it, if it is working water should squirt out of it while pushed and stop when you let go.

That city water connection should have the check valve in it behind the washer....it stops the water from coming out of it while using the water holding tank and pump when there is no city water to connect to.

What type of trailer you have and do you have a water filter on it. On mind I switch the three value by the water tank then then switch values by the filter

Murf - you need to read the fine print on that red sticker. You have to change the position of the suction valve on the water pump to draw from the winterizing hose instead of from the tank. Just run your hand along the winterizing hose and you'll find a small black valve just above the water pump.

This would be my suggestion as well.

I found the valve and turned it. That is when the above happened. Tried it the other also. Is there another valve that I am missing?

Murf - there should be a check valve in the city water line before it joins into the discharge of the water pump. If you can find it, try to "mechanically agitate" it with something like a screwdriver handle. Hope this helps.

I am a bit confused myself. I am a newbie to this and would like to save myself some money by winterizing myself. I also have the antifreeze intake connection on the outside of my TT just below the city water connection. I have a 2015 23IKSS. Does this mean I am already set up to winterize? The antifreeze intake connection has a female connection, so I assume this is intended to hook your hose up on the outside and stick the other end into the antifreeze jug? Do I still need to bypass anything near the pump? I also have the water filter system. It was a pain to install when I purchased the TT because I couldn't turn the housing. I tried turning it with the supplied wrench, but couldn't get a good angle because of where it is located. Do I need to bypass the water filter or just remove it? How do I know if I have any water in my FW tank? Does the city water connection actually fill up the FW tank? I have never used the FW tank as I always hook up to city water. There is another connection on the TT for FW, so I assume my tank is empty. At least that is what my panel says.

My unit came with a short tube of PEX with a 45 fitting.

The water heater.

Some people have removed the filter and then placed a clean plastic bottle filled with water in the cartridge to fill the dead space.

Under your unit you may find some tubes with caps or plugs remove them and let the water drain.

My local shop charges $60 to winterize. Considering the cost of our rigs, and how much we spend for gas, "toys," and campground fees, that's a small price to pay for peace-of-mind during the sub-zero winter nights. I will de-winterize myself in the spring... But not a lot of risk involved with that.

JWHybrid - I suggest that you pay a reputable RV shop to winterize your unit and to show you how it's done. You have too many questions and too much to lose.

Getting ready to pick up new 2014 fifth wheel Monday....when winterizing a unit with washer /dryer combo, does one need to do anything special with it?

Regardless of how any valves are set, there should be a check valve preventing anything coming out of the fresh water input fitting. It should be located at the input fitting itself. At least that's how both motorhomes that I have owned were set up.

since this thread is in the Hybrid TT section and hybrids DON'T have anyplace for any washer or dryer, i suggest you post a similar question in the 5th wheel section or the Appliance section.
you'll get more responses in the appropriate section.
