20# LPG tank models

I see that a lot of FR products are using the 20# LP tanks instead of the 30# tanks. We are in the shopping stage. Is there a way to determine which brands/models use the 20# tanks instead of the 30# tanks without visiting all those websites?

Anyone got a list?

Depends what you're shopping for. If it's a TT like mine, then the tanks were easy to swap. Just bought 2 tanks, a longer threaded rod and a new cover.

If you're looking at something like a 5er, or other trailer where the tanks are stored in an enclosed space like a v-nose, then it might be harder to swap them.

Sorry...forgot to mention we are shopping for a fifth wheel.

We don't like the FR3 25DS we bought last summer. Looking to sell it and go to a fifth wheel setup.

" normally " 5th wheels are 2 30's factory, however my 5th wheel has 3 20's factory and I added a 4th for a total of 80 lbs.
I love the 20's over the 30's for the simple fact that I can exchange at any grocery store or gas station at 8pm at night.
A 30lb cylinder is not that easy.

I don't think you'll find any such list sorry.

Our V-Lite has 30# tanks,we "camp" in Early Spring and Early Fall as well as Cook most of our meals,and run the Refer on Auto which uses propane going down the road! Very seldom do we need to run the propane side of our W/H. We Do NOT use a 30# Tank in a whole Year,and we are out more than "125" Days! When at Site we run Elec.Heat! Youroo!!

Our unit came with the standard 30# tanks ... we requested the small/lighter 20# tanks....and so glad we did. Easier to change, lighter on the tongue, easier to find and swap out.

We have a 320RS also. Where did you put the 4th tank? And did you hook it up with the 3 existing tanks.

I did not hook it up.
I put it in the basement on a tank stand.

Good read, and there's one more thing I hate about exchange places. Your brand new trailer most likely comes with brand new tanks. (At least ours did.) Since tanks have an expiry date (basically at a certain age they won't fill the tanks anymore) why would I want to give up brand new tanks for somebody's old tank?

Once your tanks are nearing that 'can't refill anymore age' tank exchanges make since, as you're more likely to get a newer tank than your old tank, but swapping out a new tank for an old? No thank you.

That's true about trading your tanks in and getting an old tank that has rust and probably a shorter life on the valve that has a limited life span. We had both of our tanks stolen off of our Bullet a couple of years ago and went to a propane dealer and ended up with older tanks as opposed to purchasing new expensive ones. Anyway we protected the tanks by drilling a 1/2 inch hole in the cross bar that holds them and another 1/2 inch hole in the v nut that snugs them down and then dropped a pad lock thru both holes. Thus theft problem solved.

Try these. They are pretty new to the market but you can see how much propane you have left in the tanks. Whenever we reach the point of having to buy new tanks I'll be looking to buy these.

To oops FR3 what's the reason? Just querulous. I have a F150 EB wit HT and Heavy Payload (2,393 - now their 3,300), great for HT 5r.

we just ordered new FR TH. Bumper to ball a bit over 30 ft. 30s were an option. Next size up they are standard. Popularity at least out west is less heating going on, and easy nearly 24/7 to swop out 20s at gas stations an markets everywhere.

We took the 30s. We can always toss a 20 in as our spare or in an emergency, get one at the market.

I checked out the composite propane cylinders and they are triple the cost of a regular tank. For all I would have to move them to refill I could not justify the cost.
So far in camp grounds we have been in I have yet to see any here in the Okanagan. The light weight is a great feature.
