2nd Gray Tank

We have a Sierra with a 2nd gray tank and I have no clue how gray water gets into the 2nd tank. Today the 1st one overflowed and nothing went into the 2nd one. What is the secret to this?

One is for the kitchen sink, the other is for shower/sink.. that's the one most likely filled first!! Watch your tank monitors!!

only way to know for sure is to test. next time you are at the dump station or your tanks are clean run water from different areas and test. but yes more then likely the kitchen sink is one and the shower and bathroom faucet is the other.

you can get an attachment and open both gate vales and they should back fill for more capacity out of the shower (as long as you trust the add on fitting)

by chance to you washer / dryer prep? we do and it turned out one entire gray tank was dedicated to the washer drain. next time you are hooked up to a sewer open one gray drain and pour water down each drain pipe and make a note of what drains go through the tank you have open. repeat wit the other tank.

also you may be able to use the tank that is not collecting waste water but it will depend on how your tank drains are plumbed. if all tanks drain through a common sewer connection then you can buy an external valterra gate valve ($35 or so) and connect it to the sewer output. close the valterra valve and open the two gray tanks and waste will equalize between them.

When you dump be sure you dump both gray tanks. I have 2 gray dump valves that both go into the main black dump valve. I can dump black or gray or both.

Either your not washing dishes or your not taking a shower. Which is it?

I never thought it could be from the washer/dryer. We do have a washer/dryer hookup so that must be what the other gray tank is for.

Go pour some water down the washer drain and see where it comes out. I’ll bet you have a tank dedicated to the washer drain. We were surprised when we bought our trailer. Specs said 80 gallons gray tank capacity. Technically true, but 40 of it is dedicated to the washer we do not have. See the comments about using the external valterra valve that will allow you to equalize between the two gray tanks, if your plumbing allows this.
