Don't forget resale values.. Sure you are spending some more up front for the diesel, but compare resale values on used 3/4 and 1 ton gassers to diesels.. in some areas you can't give away a HD gasser.

I'll give you that one shorthorn. A fine point.
That "area" you mentioned must be Texas. I saw more Ford diesels in that state than any other on a recent cross country trip. Just an observation.

I am sure Texas is that way too... I am familiar with the Central Illinois area... I see gassers sitting on lots... Diesels literally are flying off the lots around here.

3 weeks ago the local Ford dealer had a total of 12 F250s & F350s....only one was a gasser. Sales manager said they just dont sell here.

Here's my two cents worth. I'm towing with a 2013 Dodge 3/4 ton, 5.7L Gasoline , 6 speed trans. I'm towing 14,100# 38 foot, Silverback fifth wheel. Last year we drove from just south of Houston to Alaska, July to October. Putting 14020 miles on my truck. Over all I was getting 9.2 MPG. That whole trip I never had a problem feeling that I was under-powered.
If you have the extra $$$ for a diesel.... fine. But I'll put my Ram 5.7L up against your diesel. By the way I have had both.

Challenge excepted Gene... when, where, what is the stakes?

5.7s Hemis are great motors, but come on... it can't hang with a diesel in any criteria except initial cost.

I am in Southern Illinois and to find a 2500 gasser on any lot is nearly impossible here. Must be purely geographical.

Matter of fact, this past Friday I was at the dealership where I purchased my 1500 inquiring about used 2500 gassers. NO LUCK! Hard to find in this area, people are hanging onto them.

So once again, it must be purely geographical with the "want" and "need" for these trucks. But then again, this is farming country. I see more gassers than diesels on the road here.
