5th Wheel tire replacement

Hello fellow campers.

In two separate trips I have blown 2 tires (current Good Year) with less than 7k miles and inflated to 74lbs. Between the two it caused over $6k in damage to my 2013 Sanibel RV. I am looking at the Michelin replacing all 4 and my spare tire too. Make some noise and let me know what you all think.

Current RV Tire information
ST235/80R16 GoodYear Marathon
Load Range - E
Max Single 1550
Max double 1360
Cold 80 PSI


Looking at these
Michelin LTX M/S2
LT265/75R16

The Goodyear is rated at 3420 lbs. So the Michelin is under by 5 lbs which if your not at max weight should not be a big deal. Can I ask why you are not running the Goodyear's at 80 psi. St tires should be run at the maximum on the sidewall.

Had the same thing happened to me .But trail express tires.
I put Michelin xps ribs 235 85 16 and did alot of research. Went with these tires because I didn't want to change rims out
I run 80 psi in all my tires

The biggest cause of trailer tire blowouts is under inflation, and reading the OP he was running under inflated tires, I wonder why though, was this advice given by someone.

Have run Goodyear Marathons on a travel trailer and a fifth wheel with no issue. What speed are you traveling. ST tires are rated for 65 mph.

In 7k you have blown up 2 tires and have all that damage? I know there are tires stories all over the net, but you need to ask yourself some very important questions first;
1) What is your travel speed
2) What air pressure are you running
3) and probably the most important, What is your weight loaded
You need to look at these 3 things very closely or no matter what tire you put on your coach it will keep blowing up, You have to keep your speed under 65 mph, you have to make sure your tires are aired up EVERY day you want to travel, and you must be under weight for the tires, or they will over heat and blow up.

I think you will find that the LT245/75R16 is a closer size match to your OEM size. I almost replaced my OEM Akurets with these Michelin, but the Max Cap was little lower and also I felt more comfortable with ST tire design over the LT for my 5ver.

After a number a recommendations...I went with the Carlisle RADIAL TRAIL RH ST 235/80R16. Our local Discount Tire store had them in stock for $625 mounted and balanced (Yes I always balance my RV tires), but our RV dealer actually had them for ~100 less so I got them there. Good luck with your decision.

Even the best, properly inflated tires will heat up and fail if they're running on misaligned axles as I've experienced first hand. Not just tires, but bearings are at risk. Without verifying alignment at a truck/trailer shop, tire replacement might be an expensive exercise in futility leading to more premature failures.

I replaced mine with BF Goodrich Commercial T/A. About 1000.00 for five. I've got 2013 34' Sandpiper loaded weight about 10400 lbs fifth wheel

The Maxxis are great tires. I had e rated tires on my sandpiper 365saq.
I switched out to goodyear g614.
They have a heavier load capacity per tire and are a much better tire than what's on the market. In my opinion.
They are a small semi truck tire.
By going up in capacity I think you will notice a big difference.
Just my 2 cent!!
