5th wheel towing

Is anyone towing a 5th wheel with a 2012 dodge 3500 dually?

Cheatham,
I am towing my 39' Sanibel 3500 5th wheel hitch with a 2013 Ram Truck dually. So far have towed it over 6000 miles from Va to Flagstaff Arizona without any major issues. By the way, I bought my 5th from Campers Inn in Mocksville and Ram Truck in Kernersville. My unit has the Cummins diesel and Asin Tranny.

I'm sure you will find plenty here doing that. Is there anything specific you want to know?

Yep, that's exactly what I have- 2012 Dodge 3500 Dually. Crew cab/long bed/4.10 gears.

What's up?

We went with an Anderson Ultimate fifth wheel hitch in our standard bed. It weighs 70 lb and can be put in and pulled out with ease. Just FYI if you're looking at options. The Anderson handles our 14k fifth wheel with ease and you do not even know the trailer is back there.

IMHO,
Grateful

Trouble?
Due to the weight?
Getting it locked down?

I went with the B&W Turnoverball and Companion hitch but paid someone to install it. He did not complain of any issues putting it in and the Companion comes out in 2 manageable pieces.

I like the Reese with 4 pucks, latches in with levers. The floor is clear for use when not towing.

We have a Reese 16K. Pull out 4 super-duty cotter pins and out the KP hitch comes. I would guess it weighs 70-ish pounds. I can lift it easily and I turn 60 this year.

Is this what you wanted to know?

I have the Hensley BD3, it weighs in around 130# + but it will come apart if necessary. It's been in the bed of the truck for a couple of years now, not much need to take it out. I have had it out with the help of my 1/2 ton electric hoist in the garage. Pull four pins, wrap a strap around the hitch, lift and drive the truck out from under it. Let it down on a four wheel dolly and push it off into a corner.

Do you have the ram factory 5th wheel prep? When I was researching trucks I read about 5ers hitch issues in arms. I forget where i saw it but I remember reading something about needing custom bed rails and having trouble finding hitches that fit it properly. I wish I could remember where I saw it and what they used to fit it.

I have the Curt Q20, standard rail mount. RV dealer installed. No issues so far.

I have the factory hitch prep package and had a difficult time finding the picture frame base plate and Mopar hitch, which is a Curts with Mopar stickers. I have over 6000 miles towing with the combination and like the setup. It takes me 10 minutes to remove the assembly out of the truck for a clean looking truck bed when not towing.

If I recall correctly, the option for the factory 5th wheel prep didn't show up until the 2013s. I don't think it was an option when I ordered my 2012.

I have a 2012 ram 3500 crew 4x4 with air bags and use the B&W turnover and the companion and absolutely love this hitch...easy to remove takes about 10 minutes to take out or put in....we pull a Sandpiper 360 PDEK loaded down at 15,380 on a cat scale so we know the weight is accurate and it pulls like a dream.....Click image for larger version
