8280ws King Pin Box

Hi

I am thinking of a sidewinder. Does any one have details of the make and model number of the King Pin Box as supplied on the 8280ws?

Do you know who made your frame?
Might be time for a call to FR with your VIN number.

I got in contact with Forest River, apparantly the VIN number is no good to them, I guess I will have to wait until the unit is delivered to RVW and ask them to give it to me.

At least I can get some prices on the sidewinder, I think the prices are the same for all pin boxes anyway. I will only need it when I order it.

Thanks for your help

The VIN is no good to them? Did RVW give you your VIN yet?
The VIN is on the frame from the frame manufacturer and is assigned to your purchase order when the camper starts being built to your spec.
I had mine when it went on the assembly line with "my name on it."

Nope not yet all I have is an order number, perhaps it is too early yet, I only paid the deposit about two weeks ago but only signed the "digital signature stuff" Wednesday last week, because they missed a whole load of stuff we agreed upon and I insisted they write it on the contract.

I see. You won't get a clear idea of what is being put into the camper until it is final and on the line to be built. No VIN; no help.

You can order a sidewinder pin box as an option...installed by Rockwood at the time it's built. That's the low cost way to get it.

You are right, I should have included this at the time of ordering, but at that time I had in mind a regular slider. After considering that we will be on the road for 6 months and every stopover would be an unknown, (not like reversing 50% of the time into your own yard after evey trip), I was thinking of going Autoslider, but the cost (and maintenance to a small degree) is putting me off.

I have asked RVW for a price but I am not holding my breath, now they have my order they will want top $ I expect, lets see I might have to take that back, I'll keep the forum posted on that score.

Campingworld, inc membership will supply for $599 delivered, but then I have to fit it myself which I don't mind. The DW can help

You could try talking to RVW to include the sidewinder option for your camper...as you don't have a vin # yet, it isn't built and could still be added.

Dave! That is a greatpoint!

It could even be added at the factory even if it was on the line.
The pin box would be a snap to replace while the rig is on the assembly line.

Thanks for your encouragement. I have asked RVW for a price, 2 days ago, also for a VIN number, no reply yet.

If they want full wack then they don't get the business, if they are sensible they will. Lou I read you paid MSRP for your tinted windows, but then you could not retro fit these yourself so they have you cornered.

Lets see what they come back with.

I know that when we ordered (down payment) our 5er on the 14th of the month, the VIN # was issued the 21st. It took five weeks to build it. We made changes during the build, but not the pin box.

Keep fighting. Try RV Direct for a quote too.
Not sure what you mean about a VIN number. You will not get a VIN until you sign the order with the dealer; THEY send the order to Forest River; Forest River actually starts construction of your camper; and you start bugging the dealer for your VIN when the estimated delivery time gets close.

As to the windows, I wanted to add them to the order AFTER we had done the deal. It is the same at that time as going to the parts counter. You are gonna pay retail. I needed to add it to the build because, though possible I guess, switching from regular glass windows to tinted safety glass windows myself would have been horribly expensive.

Since FR had not put it on the line yet, it was only a phone call to the dealer. Same with your sidewinder; As long as they have not actually started building it, you should be able to add it (at full MSRP of course). Again, once you sign; you have no leverage.
