Advertised length of camper

I have been looking on the Forest River website at travel trailers..
It says in the specs. "Exterior Length"
Is this the box dimension or tongue to bumper?
And is this typical for all products under the Forest River name?

Subtract 4 feet. 1 ft for the rear bumper and 3 ft for the front hitch.
We have a 2902, 29 ft of living space. Overall length is 33'9".

So, we are looking at at Puma 31QBBH. Exterior Length specs. say 37' 8".
So box length is 33' 8" correct?

Maybe!
Frankly, I'd be surprised if the entire industry used the same conventions.

Exactly Mr. Dan!
That's my concern also.
From the ones we have been looking at online, I do t think everyone lists the lengeltha the same.
Guess I'll just have to take the tape measure with me and physically measure it.

I think the number can be almost useless. We had a trailer that had 24 in the model number. The box was 22' but the bumper to ball measurement was 28'. We look at what it has in it first and if we like then out comes the tape to measure. We have made it to the point that we can guess pretty close to length based on what is in it. We have been wrong but most of the time get pretty close.

How well does this relate to a "Puma 31QBBH"?

I don't believe this is a model number to length discussion. It has been proven here that model numbers are sometimes pulled out of the air and do not relate to length.
This discussion is about published length to actual as I read it.

Generally, Yes, not box length. I've found exterior length specs to be more accurate than any weight specs, except GVWR.

Yeah we liked the Travel Lite Evoke Model A due to the layout, the bright colors and it only being 24' from RVtrader, but couldn't figure out why it was so darn heavy.... Well come to find out it is actually almost 30'! The posted 24' feet is actual floor space. So the standards are all over the place when it comes to posted lengths, but AFAIK FR uses only ball to bumper lengths on TTs. The model A is still a nice streamlined looking trailer though!

I think bottom line is...if you like the layout and it fits for you and your family...BUY it!

I agree... that's why I put the "IF" in this post.

Some owners are concerned with parking the unit in a spot of known length. I don't have that issue.

External Lengths

In my FR catalog from 2014, the specified lengths are bumper to hitch. When we bought our current one I asked to see TT's in the 28' range. Sales person took us to one. He swore it was 28'. Well, that was the box size. Its 32' long. Whomever you talk to or what ever you read, you need to ask specifics. You'll hear both now days.

I have 40 DP, really no bumper and of course no hitch, length is 41.9 so get the tape out if you really want to know.

Take the tape measure.

I also emailed the manufacturers with specific models I was interested in and asked for an absolute "tip to tail" measurement, citing my issues with a storage lot at the time.

Length

Measure, but everyone we have had is 4' more than model size. Our 27.5' is actually 31.9'. One think to consider, if you are doing especially national parks and state parks to a lesser degree, over 30' total length really makes it MUCH tougher to get a site. In older national parks, it cuts available sites by more than 50%. Also the roads are very tight and narrow.EX. Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Tetons, and Custer State Park. In Yellowstone we made reservations a year in advance. Took 5 calls to get a site, and when we got there an hour to wedge into site. Most their sites are a max of 45', truck and trailer. Fishing Bridge, which has larger sites is closed thru 2020. We boon docked in 3 of the 4 parks to get a site inside park, after making reservation at lease 9 months in advance for Sept.-slower season. Just a consideration.
