Air Compressors
Hello All,
I would like to purchase an air compressor, primarily for blowing out the lines in my TT and maybe some minor home use. Ive read, you need volume, some say you need the psi which I know that typically 50 psi is about max to use, so definitely some different opinions. Would love to hear some more suggestions or if any of you have specific models you suggest.

I'd say that you need volume. Any compressor can get a high PSI but how much air (CFM) can you move? A small CFM compressor would quickly run out of air flow. I know this because I bought some air tools for my tractor restoration project. I tried to run them with a 4 gallon pancake compressor. I had plenty of PSI but the tool would run for about 2 seconds and quit. Lack of sufficient CFM.
But a large CFM compressor costs some money. If you only need a compressor for small house projects, generally a small CFM compressor will work. They will easily run nail guns etc. Maybe consider just winterizing by running RV antifreeze through the trailer's water pump. That's what I do. I know there are fans of compressed air but I honestly feel more confident with the RV antifreeze. Generally $10 to $15 worth of RV antifreeze does the job.

Are you wanting a stand alone unit in the garage of your home? Are you wanting a portable unit that can be hooked up to a 12v battery and fill tires and such or are you wanting a full on board air system installed on your truck?
Lots of options, need a little more information as to what you are wanting...
If you are wanting to stay home with it and looking fairly small and on the cheaper end, a pancake style compressor would be a good option, other wise if you want to run any sort of air tools a 10 gallon or bigger with a 3HP motor would be my suggestion.
Viar makes some portable units for hooking up to 12v batteries as well as on board air systems...

Hot dog style tucks away better than pancake in my thinking. I carry a compressor with me while traveling. The one I have I have had for years, mainly for use with nail guns, but it is a little heavy. DB level is another factor important to me. If I did not already have a compressor, I would consider:

or
http://www.californiaairtools.com/
I have no experience with either, but they get favorable reviews.

I have a small pancake at home that does most household jobs. Filling tires, nail gun, impact for changing tires, etc... I haven't tried it for winterizing so I don't know how it'd hold up there (volume wise) but for most other things it's ok.

I have a cheap 3 gallon pancake compressor and have been happy with it. I tried a. 1 or 1.5 gallon hot dog compressor but thought it didn't have enough oomph for my truck tires (65 and 70 psi). I took it back. After having the same issue with my pancake compressor, I figured out I was the problem. The pancake is bigger .
It's loud but quick- I never considered the DB level.

The PORTER-CABLE C2002-WK Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor is what I use when at home, but would work on the road if you have a bigger basement and a generator or shore power.

I carry a small pancake compressor from Harbor Freight with me. It has done everything I needed it to do so far. Think I paid $35-$45 for it.

I was thinking about getting that one myself for emergency use when traveling. I have a coupon for 39.95 and realize that it will be noisy and probably take some time to inflate tires to 65 or 85 psi. Would not think it would work in case of a flat but would work to top off tires a few pounds. It only weighs 21 pounds so that's a good thing too. When I winterize I blow out the lines and add antifreeze too, so even if the 1 CFM at 40 psi is a bit on the light side, I have the antifreeze there too. Here's a link to it at Harbor Freight.

my brother-in-law bought one like fonzie posted from Sears. Works ok but takes a few minutes to fill tires, tank runs out fast. So many opinions and their all good, only needs to please you.

I keep a 3gal cake in the storage bay...good for tires, n airbags......I will say that to take my 20" tires from low at 50psi to 65-70 takes a while....like 8-10 min of running....mind you it would inflate any tire in a pinch.....but it may take a while.....and forget blowing lines out with it....you CAN but its agonizingly painfully slow...I use the craftsman 30 gal for that...and keep a 60 gal in the shop for constant duty like painting, grinding, or using the da to polish

I have a Sears evolv, it has done all I need of it including airing up the 17" tires on my PU.
I paid 59.99( I think) on sale.

I had one of those. ..its the same as a harbor freight...100psi 1scfm at 40 psi.... (obviously better quality) but it would still be a lil scant to blow out lines

Have not tried it, my trailer is factory set up for pulling the pink right out of the jug so I do it the easy way.
Two gallons in and I am done took about 1/2 hour if I remember right.
