Are 5th wheel ceiling fans really worth it??
Went to look at new Rockwood 5th wheels today. Even pulled the truck up to the front of one to check rail clearance. The truck/trailer combo looked really nice! And with any luck, we'll be ordering the 8280SS next spring. The dealer and this particular sales guy came recommended.
While we were inside the units, the salesman turned on the fancy ceiling fan. He didn't know if it was a 12v or a 120v fan, and we never did figure it out, so which is it?
And as I stood there pondering the voltage question, it occurred to me that the fan just wasn't moving a lot of air. The AC was running and the AC seemed to be moving a lot more air than the fan.
So the question is: is the ceiling fan really worth it? Or is it something of a status symbol like a fancy hood orniment on an old Buick?

I had one in my old Prowler. It was 120v AC. Worth it? No, not really. As you put it. It's a "status symbol". Bells and whistles is all. There's not enough insulation in an RV roof to make a ceiling fan work correctly in my opinion. Ours was more of a PITA then anything. The blasted chain kept getting caught up in the blades while traveling so we had to untangle it before turning it on.

I agree with Greg. Plus, it is just one more thing to keep clean.

I've got 2 ceiling fans in my Park Model trailer. They are switched on the wall, and have reverse buttons too. (no chains)
I like them...and use them often. I think they move plenty of air...and help to keep the temperature layers from forming. Keeps the temps equal high and low. It's really more noticeable when the sun shines directly on the trailer...and it gets hot nearer the ceiling. On a hot day...any little breeze feels better than none at all. They are quiet, and you won't trip over them either. Just my two cents...

uurs is 120volt
and a funny thing about it, is that 1/4 of the blades arc passess directly over the grill for the ceiling mounted sub woofer for the concertone.
about every two months the sub woofer cover must be pulled down and vaccumed really well...
iffin you dont
you will be sitting there enjoying a nice dvd and all of the sudden a big DUST SLUG will break loose from the vent tube for the woofer and BAM it drops out of the grill and hits the fan blades and more often than not the free flying DUST SLUG will alight itself on you, right when you are not expecting it, like during a tense moment in a scary movie,

I like it
I have one in my wolfpack it has a switch on the wall. I believe it moves air nice. It also has a reverse switch. We used it this weekend instead of running the air.
Smoke alarms, is that what those are called. We call them dinner bells!

Ours has two (twice the status... like two big hood ornaments!) We use them a lot and like them. On a fifth whel though, they would be considerably higher up and they do have a very low blade angle... not sure if the air movement would be felt as much.
I installed s smoke alarm on the wife... they work best close to the source.

I have a ceiling fan in the bedroom area. Best option in the TT. has a/c vent right above the blades. works the best.

Of course, I meant it's because she's soooo hot, not that she can't cook.

My ceiling fan is 12V. It moves air when rotating in the proper direction. Status symbol or not, I like it.
