Awning Malfunction
As we were heading north toward some great camping in Spooner, Wisconsin over the weekend we came upon a TT in front of us. Just as we caught up, the awning on the TT extended (at 60 mph) shredding the awning and mangling both support arms. How does that happen and is there something that should be done to guard against it?

My solution follows the KISS principle. I wrap a velcro strap (about 10"long made by Camco) around each awning arm. They're thin enough to slide behind the part that bolts to the trailer.

Sorry to tell you, but locking the arms will not keep the awing from unrolling on the tube if the motor goes south. Once the motor turns loose, the torsion spring will automatically unroll the material.

Now, I just need to label the switch to remind the awning operator (namely me) to release the lock before attempting to deploy the awning.

If manual awning I put a u bolt style around the arms cause I didn't understand the locks completely. My father drives a truck for a living. He said blow outs and awnings is he what he had noticed.
Haven't worried about the electric awning. Again I don't know everything about them. The only sure thing I could see be a racket strap placed between the camper and awning. I don't want to have to deal with the chaping of the strap on the camper.
Seen OC has made a locking device but I haven't had a scare or the home base to build anything like that.

Might try something like this ( see below) . I use these on the knobs that lock down the dump function on the awning . I never forget to loosen knobs before closing awning. Also have one on power connector to remind me to check WH switch.

Made a different style that just slips into the sunscreen slot clear to the end and ties down.
