Axle hub cover - smaller travel trailers

Hi All,

We just downsized to a smaller TT, but we stayed with FR/Flagstaff. This TT has the same wheel/lug/hub configuration as (I believe) several of the smaller TT's have. It has plain white wheels with plastic lug nut caps and this unit came with E-Z-Lube axles. These axles are great since all it takes to re-grease the bearings is to pop off the rubber end cap on the axle hub and attach the grease gun to the fitting on the tip end of the axle. We have these on our boat trailer too and love them.

We bought our unit used and the dealer re-greased our bearings before we left on our long pull home and all was ok. But our unit does not have the pretty cosmetic hub cap that (I believe) it had when new.

So here are the questions - do these cosmetic hub caps fit under the wheel of outside of the wheel? If outside what holds them on? And do most folks who have this configuration hub cap leave these cosmetic hub caps off or do they put them back on after they are pulled off for re-greasing the E-Z-Lube bearings ?

Below is a pic of our unit without the cosmetic caps and also below is another pic that I borrowed from another thread here that does still have the cosmetic cap.

Thanks in advance.

It's been a LONG time, but my 1988 Coleman had chrome plastic wheel covers. As I recall, they had metal teeth embedded in the plastic that gripped the wheel when you pushed them on. I lost one somewhere around 1998. I went to the local RV dealer and they had them in stock, except that the ones they had didn't match what I lost. So I ended up having to buy 2 of them so they'd match.

I doubt their design has changed since, but you never know.

Mine were just like yours but 13 years old and cracked, thin like egg shells and ugly. Found these black covers at etrailer.com for about $5 each. They snap on to your lug nuts.

Thanks Rock & Moon, that snap-on from etrailer looks good. It looks nice and evidently easy to pop off when needed? Ours is only 5 years old but evidently these haven't changed much over the years.

Edit: I ordered 5 of these from etrailer. They were only $3.66 each so I ordered an extra in case one gets lost.

Thanks again.

My 17FQ just has the white rim and uncovered hub.
Came that way.
Think etrailer is gonna have a run on these!

Thanks Joe, does the tip come off of your hub covers to allow the bearings to be greased without removing the wheel?

The ones I described in post #2 were full wheel covers. Did some searching on the internet and was unable to find anyone selling what I had back then. I guess full wheel covers on TT's are out of style. So glad you're good with the smaller hub covers.
