Axle ratings
After doing countless hours of research and traveling to shows to look at new fifth wheels, lately something crossed my mind and that is, the coach we bought ( 2012 Palomino Sabre 36 QBOK ) has a gross of #15825. We bought the coach from dealer stock and happened to have the 'optional upgraded' #7000 axles, normally comes with #6000 axles. If you do the math, there is #1825 that's not accounted for. I am assuming that difference would be the pin weight. Can anyone confirm that? Makes sense to me. Thanks.

Pin weight isn't on the axles. The manufacturers determine the camper's GVWR by adding the axle ratings to the dry pin weight.

Dave, I realize the pin weight isn't on the axles, however, it's obvious even while parked (unhooked), the axles and the landing gear are supporting the weight of the unit. All I was trying to surmise was, while hooked to truck, that 'difference' (#1825) was transferred to the pin. The thing that doesn't make sense to me is, for the person who buys the same trailer with the #6000 axles, that would mean THEIR pin weight would be #3825----I don't think that's right.

No there gross trailer weight would probably be 13825, 12000lbs for the 2 axles plus the pin weight.

Not sure if this helps or not but the build sheet for the 2013 QBOK indicates that the 7k axles are not optional but mandatory (a mandatory option). This may have been the same on the 2012.

It was the same back then- from talking to the factory rep at the time, we literally were stalking the 36QBOK from the time it was in the final stages of pre-production through orders from dealers. Their pre-production unit made the decision to only put 7k axles under them.
