Bedsaver for Fifth Wheel Hitch

I contacted three different local dealers as well as Blue Ox trying to purchase a bedsaver for my Reese Round Tube Slider hitch. I've been told by Blue Ox that they are discontinuing the bedsavers due to lack of sales. Does anyone have an alternative to using the Blue Ox bedsaver?

Check with Old Coot or Turns. They stay "in the know" about such things.

Alternative to Blue Ox bed saver

Search the Forum for "Butch's 5th Wheel Latch Kit" Herk did a review. Easy install and cost is about $50.00 as I recall.

cascade has it right- Butch's 5th Wheel Latch Kit is about the only alternative. Though, it's nothing like the Blue Ox in design or principal other than it possibly catches a dropped 5th wheel.

I feel sorry for you as I will not tow without one, I have had mine since 2008 on my Reese slider hitch. I was telling a neighbor about my "Bedsaver" after he complained he had damaged his trailer and truck bed after high hitching and doing a pull test when the trailer separated from the hitch. I told him to contact Blue OX to see if one is available for a PULL Right hitch? I guess I know the answer now.

Due diligence when hitching is the same as using any type of bed saver that isn't static. If you have to lock in a bar, you might as well just look to see that your hitch is locked in place. If you can't tell if your hitch is locked or not, I would look for a new hitch. I knew if my hitch was locked from the driver's seat. It either was or wasn't, no gray area.

It's a device that is attached to your hitch that will save the bed of your truck from damage if you don't properly hitch your trailer.

I agree.
Don't need one if you check pin for engagement.
Waste of money imo

I would agree.

I have the Reese Elite and painted the large clamshell jaw and always look to make sure it is fully engaged. Also there is a flag when safety pinning the hitch arm.

I don't understand how a pull test could have the trailer drop? I leave my jacks 1/4 inch off the ground.

I didn't know either, Danny.

But they DO appear to be for sale. Google works!

And only the penguins are happy when you mess up a seal.

I’ve found with the level up system, I can’t leave my front landing gear 1/4 inch up as one rises first and then the second. I fear doing a pull test with them down would damage something. I have two very experienced camping friends that both dropped their trailers on their beds in the last 30 days. God help us all!

John, if you don't pull forward very far, it apparently doesn't damage anything. You can email me to ask me how I know.

But the B&W is a positive locking. It is or it isn't.

Very valid point. I have electric landing gear and would have never thought of that. All the more reason to have a hitch that definitely locked correctly.

Mine front landing gear did that also, but they both came up just enough to let the weight off of them, which is enough for a pull test.
