Best type RV for a Ford 150 SuperCrew Limited with 5 1/2 ft bed

With a Ford 150 SuperCrew Limited with 5 1/2 ft bed is a 5th wheel or travel trailer better ?

look at payload for that truck. That's going to be the biggest factor. Bet it's pretty low

Limited is similar trim to the King Ranch I owned. Payload likely 1600 to 1700 lbs.

Yep, check the payload capacity amount and post it. It's on the driver door sticker.
You also need to post way more info on truck specs.
Year, engine, factory tow package or not, rear end ratio.
If it's Ecoboost, does it have Max Tow package or HD Payload package.

Sounds like he is not looking for absolute weight but tradeoffs between 5th wheel and bumper tow?

Has a short bed on it so he may have heard 5th wheel does not work?

Interesting question posed by someone with cardinal and a dually In their signature. That said, more info is needed about both the capabilities of the truck and the weights of trailers being considered to give a fair answer.

Following this discussion...

Was at an RV show this weekend, saw a couple of light-weight and ultra-light 5'ers that are well within my truck's capabilities; and have me re-thinking my "no 5th wheels on a half-ton" stance.

I'd be very interest in some real-world feedback...

Realistically, if I put more than a 800lb. pin weight on my truck along with bikes, wife, and dog, then I am close to my GVWR, Not many 5th wheels out there with a 800 pin weight.

Check your owners manual about if you can even pull a fifth wheel. It is not recommend to pull one on a 1/2 ton. I do believe the F150 is a 1/2 ton. How many people are you planning on sleeping in it?

I am pulling a 2015 FR 2504S (about 5,000 lbs) with the same pickup (2014) that has a V6. It pulls fine on relatively flat land, but is a dog when going up hills. I am going to replace it with a V8, which should provide the power needed to comfortably pull the trailer and I'll likely get better gas mileage since it won't be as much a load on the engine and transmission.

Eh? Are you talking about the F-150? I pull a 7000 lb 2604WS up I-5 with a 2014 F-150 Ecoboost and I would not call it a dog at all. I have the power to pretty much go up anything at the speed limit. Only on the steepest/longest grades do I run into issues, and they are cooling issues not power issues.

BTW be careful with that "replace it with a V8" because it may not be better. I chose the Ecoboost specifically because it has more torque than the base V8. I love the sound of a V8 and have driven them for years. But this game is all about torque and the dual hairdryer V6 has it over the base V8s in the F-150s.

We have a Flagstaff 829fkss TT with a dry wt of 6313#. I estimate that it is probably about 7100 or 7200 lb loaded and we tow it with a 2014 F150 EcoboostSuper Crew, Maxtow w/ E rated 10 ply tires on it. It pulls stronger than our 2005, 2008, or 2011 Super Crews similarly equipped but with v-8's (5.4l and 5.0l). Payload rating was 1900 lb with the standard tires. I? did put the heavier tires on it.

That's a very good link. That said I have a '13 F150 ecoboost Supercrew 4X4 that pulls my Palomino easily.

I am not a truck snob. I don't think you need a 20 cylinder, 6 axle 3 ton all wheel drive to pull a fiver. I do think with the right 1/2 ton it's totally possible. I think the weight distribution you need and the challenges posed by a short bed are daunting. You definitely need to find the right setup, and TT to pull it off.
