Birds and Hehr frameless windows

So I am outside cleaning up my boat and I hear this ticking. I'd been Limbing up trees and making the rv spot at the house tidy. Anyway I walk around and there's a wood pecker going to town on the top of the frameless window. Well I am hitting the boat with another coat of wax again yesterday and sure enough a female cardinal is pecking away. I noticed bird streaks on most my windows.

They perch on the top and peck away. Now I am used to them picking bugs off my truck and jeep I just find this a little bizarre.

Anyone else or am I being paid back for years of dove quail and waterfowl hunting?

The Red Cardinals are doing all kinds of rituals on my trucks passenger door mirror and window! Have to clean it everyday, quite nasty! "Spring" is in the air and they are in the "mood"!

Yeah, they see their reflection in the glass and peck at it trying to run the
intruder off!!

A buddy of mine had a cardinal sit on his truck mirror and peck and fly at
his window enough times that it actually scuffed the glass! Not to mention
all the bird droppings and smear marks everywhere.

We were camping a couple of years ago at a state park, and had to put plastic bags on the mirrors to keep the cardinals from pecking on the mirror and chrome on the back. It worked well.

I guess I just never slowed down enough to notice it before.

Something else to clean.

Lol this is a good one haha , we just had a guy on our local news here in Indiana that has replaced his mirror on his truck 4 times because of a wood pecker breaking it . He recorded it after the first one but no one would help him and he was told by our DNR that is was against the law to hurt the bird . After the forth time DNR did come and capture the little guy and hauled him away so beware they can break glass

The last couple of years the woodpeckers have moved in the area. Now they have really made a mess of some of my trees. Last fall they started working on my house.

Between the morning doves turning my black drive white and the woodpeckers,
driven me nuts.

Try hanging strips of Mylar on poles in a few places around it.

The flash of the light reflecting off the Mylar as well as the movement scares birds, many orchards here tie strips to tree branches.

The wood peckers are trying to get at insects /larva they sense in the wood. Check the area they are working on for insects/termites.
