Cabinet door struts. Recommendations?

So I have 3 large cabinet doors that open up. Our TT didn't come with struts and I've been reading through the mods and looking at pictures. I was wondering if any particular kind was better than another and is there anything I should look for before buying them?

I saw these in mod thread and the owner said he liked them.

TIA!

When I was looking for a solution, the biggest issue I found was the mounting of the solution. I examined my mounting possibilities and worried that there were no places where the wood would support the screws required. My goal was to keep the hardware out of the way and secure as the doors are heavy.

I added a short 1x2 on one side/inside and use a simple bracket from Lowes. Might have 10 bucks wrapped up in the doors over the couch and the booth.

Good luck and think it through.

That has been my concern. The side post of the cabinet where the weight of the door would be when open.

How did you attach your 1x2?

Cut the 1x2 to fit. Line up the wood in back and determine the length of wood screw required. I choose a size that goes through the 1x2 and gets me slightly over half way into the cabinet.

Pre drill the 1x2 for 2 holes (top and bottom). Use screws that are slightly larger than what you drilled. Pick your drill bit size after you find the screws.

My cordless drill does fit in the cabinet and I was able to run the screws in. Go slow as you do not want to split the face wood.

I only needed to do this on one side for each overhead door. It works well for me. Just train any other cabinet operators not to force it closed the the hinge is locked in place.

Funny you mention not to split the face of the wood. I was looking at the water heater earlier and the black flashing they use under the hinged plywood under the mattress. The screws split every piece of support wood under that flashing.

Thanks for the detail!

Those look good. I could not find anything like that in the hardware stores. I would still consider the using the 1x2 as the cabinet is not made of oak.

Update:

I ordered the struts. I've contacted the seller, but no response yet.

How much force should the struts have? I've tried all 6 and can't collapse any of them hardly at all. I've tried pressing with my hand and against a solid surface. I'm uncomfortable installing them right now.

Is there a way to adjust the pressure?
thanks
