Camper\trailer State Inspection

Just wondering if all states require an inspection on campers\trailers? Good old NY does, seems like more money in their pocket for absolutely nothing. My camper is brand new, why would I need it inspected? Brand new vehicles come with an inspection sticker, and the dealer doesn't do an inspection as far as I know on brand new vehicles.

Not in Arkansas. We get one permanent license plate for all trailers (RV, boat, utility, etc).

Since NY only allows the dealer/garage to charge $6 for the inspections they typically do it real fast. Or some garages really try to find something wrong so they can make money of a fix in order to pass the inspection. i had mine done, i sat in the truck to flip blinkers and hit the breaks. then he pulled the break away cable and had me pull forward.... that was about it. oh and a quick glance at the tires.

And this is why I think it's such a crock. It's a 2 minute inspection. I've owned numerous trailers in my time. I've only ever had 1 inspected and have never been asked to show a valid inspection sticker for any of them. Why NY feels the need to inspect a unit that I have a brand new certificate of origin for is beyond me.

In Texas you have to get a safety inspection before you can renew your registration on any trailer with gvw above 4500#. It has been the law for many years but they just started enforcing it last year.

Yep, that's the way it works now.

But the two times I've had my trailer inspected ($7 to the inspection station & $7.50 to the state at registration time), the technician checked all my lights in all configurations (used a rod contraption to hold down my brake pedal) and he tripped my break-away brake switch (not brake-away break switch) and had me pull forward to prove the brakes worked.

Texas does but the have a minimum weight, I think its 2,000 lbs. Anything under that does not. Its more of a safety check: taillights, turn signals, locking hitch, safety chains, etc. I think its like $15.

In Virginia, you are required to have a sticker yearly, 15.00 bucks. But I bought permanent plates, so no renewal fee there ...

No in Maryland that I am aware. Surprises me though. If there is a buck to be squeezed then they squeeze in this state so if there isn't a law for TT inspection there soon may be along the lines of the stupid emissions testing.
