Can I drain my tanks into my sewer clean out at home?

City and Towns have ordinances on dumping into there closed system, You can do as you want. I'm on my Town Council for 6 years, we had to regulate the use. it is a misdemeanor with a fine of 200.00 if caught. Do people still do it yes. My Community is an older Town started in 1895. The Sewer lines are made of the old tar pipe. From my my home to the Town connection is 4" PVC then it connects to the Town system at my property line. When you use a toilet there is no problem, but when you dump 40 gals at one time and causes a problem and plugs the the old sewer line. Can't handle that volume of water. Here is a picture of after I done it when Youroo was staying here and dumped, cost the Town 10,000 for repairs, so it is up to you, don't get caught. Lucky I didn't have to pay for the repair, being I broke the Ordinances.

NOT in Lafayette, LA you don't get any discount for watering your lawn. The sewer bill is a percentage of your water bill and based on metered water usage.

I agree that you would be using the sewer at home and you are not bringing back someone else's waste so just use it. I am betting that is why the Y in your back yard is there to begin with. Besides, "it is easier to get forgiveness than permission" (a quote from my father)

Wow a lot of answers on this all I can say is yes BUT make sure its your sanitary line and not a storm sewer line we don't need your black tank floaters in the local creek

In my Town Clarksville, it is against the law to even allow storm water to enter the sewer system, they use to allow your gutter drains to tie in for runoff but they have even stopped that now. But people can do what they want, just check with your City or Town, so you will know the out come if you get caught. Might not be worth the out come if caught. But I also know of no Police checking on what go's into your Town system....

Don't know how our ancestors lived the way they did, drank well water, had outdoor toilets over pits, animal dropping all over the place, chicken droppings all over the yard and they still managed. Don't know how my grandpa managed to live thru it and make it to 98 years old (passed in 1978) with only the last 5 yrs of his life when he lived with my folks and had indoor plumbing. The first 93 yrs was on a farm.

Most people back then had more common sense... Ex drive out in the country and see old homesteads...they are on the highest land they had...nowadays they will build in a river basin and wonder why it flooded.

It costs a few $$ but when I built here 2 meters were installed. The irrigation system and a spigot are on one and the house on the other. No sewer charge on the irrigation meter., there is a sewer clean out in the driveway but not sure how that would work so I'll pass. There is a CG a few miles away and could go there for $10 or CW a little farther free as a GS member. Too many other options.

Most municipalities that have a waste water treatment facility will have a dump at the facility to facilitate dumping for septic cleaning services and their own vac trucks. They will have a small fee to dump.
If you want to dump into your own cleanout be aware there is not trap at the cleanout so sewer gas from the system will escape when it is uncapped.
Most times it is required to have at least one c.o. every 100' of service lead and everytime the s.l. turns 90 degrees.

My vent drops directly to the trap. I know because I have had to have it "plunged" when we first moved in. The previous owner did not have a cap on the stand pipe and grass clippings must have been falling in for years.

Plunging it with a long iron pipe with a circle of rubber and water to make the seal cleared the trap. Never had a problem since (25 years) and have been using it as a dump station for about 5 years now.

LOL!!!! That's just what I was thinking. Makes me glad I'm in the southwest where we don't have so many rules about every little thing. And if we do have goofy rules there is nobody to enforce them and we sure don't call to ask if we can do something logical

A person would have to cut into the line between the house and the holding tank. It can not go between the tank and the field system. The 4" pipe would be buried approx. 18" below the surface. Because the buried pipe is rigid, you would have to dig a hole wide enough to cut the pipe in two places in order to fit a short length of pipe to each end of the Y connection having the drain port, then use a rubber coupler sleeve at each end, and secure them with 4 stainless steel hose clamps. Provided the original excavation has had time to settle, washing the dirt in with a garden hose around the new fitting will settle the dirt under the connection and it will stay in place. The connection should stand the test of time.
