can i hang 5th wheel hitch from kingpin?

we have stored our 5th wheel in a storage lot and I have seen many 5th wheels stored with the hitch still attached to the kingpin and hanging from it during storage. this would get it out of the truck bed without having to use a crane. our truck bed has the factory attachment pucks so it would seem to me you would locate the trailer, unhook the attachment pucks, raise the front of the trailer which would lift the hitch, and then drive the truck out. the hitch weighs over 200 lbs. we have the lippert easy up levelers on the trailer. would doing this damage the trailer? kingpin? hitch? levelers? thanks for any thoughts you can offer.

I don't see how it could do any damage. I have left my hitch hanging from the king pin to many times to count the only thing you want to do is take some weight off the hitch before you pull the pins that hold it to the rails or you will have a very hard time getting them out

Depends on the hitch. I can't uninstall my B&W Companion without removing the hitch head in order to loosen a draw-down bolt.

But actually physically hurting anything; go nuts.

Just make sure you lock it on so that some unsuspecting soul doesn't start mucking with it and drop it on themselves.

very, very good point about locking it so the jaws cannot be opened! really appreciate the insite! I don't need a lawsuit! since my hitch mounts into the factory installed pucks in the bed it should be a very simple task to unattached from them. thanks again.

interesting.
i was wondering how difficult it was going to be for me to remove the unit withthe Blue Ox bed saver attached at the end of the season.
leaving it attached and using the traielr to lift off the truck bed with pins out would save me a lot of good cuss words being used.
