CB Radio - do you use one??
I am just wondering How many people out there have a CB radio set up when they are towing? If so what channel do you use?

yes, and usually on 19 just to listen to the truckers. You will know about anything you need to know about going on with traffic and road conditions, and hear lots of things you might not want too

Works fine for groups...
We usually travel with our fivers and tt's in groups of 4 or 5... CB's are great for on road communicating with those you are traveling with for gas, food and rest stops....

Used to use CB radios on everything. Now it ham radios on simplex. Crystal clear transmissions and better range. We don't usually travel RV in groups but the radio is there for backing in, wife has portable and I listen in the truck on the installed radio, or with family as some of our kids are "hams" also. We occasionally will pick up truckers on the national simplex channel when they're in range on travels.

My wife and i are in planning stages of trip to Alaska. Many areas do not have cell service.
We are thinking about carrying my CB with us. Road conditions / emergency as just in case.
What about having satellite phone?

CB radios... what are these CB radio things you speak of...
we still use the smoke off Dodges and Chevs here in Canada to communicate.
A steady stream of blue smoke means I'm about ready to pass you so you'd better be a fixin to move over if i run outta room.

Having a CB with a group, even if it is only a group of two, is very handy. Quick and easy, no dialing, just push the button and talk and all of the parties in your group here the message. We
had 17 rigs on a trip to Alaska last year. The CB worked great and at times there was NO Cell service.
So the answer depends on what you are doing and how and where you are traveling. There are no negatives and some real positives to the CB.

I use my CB on 19 quite a bit when on the interstate. The hope is that I hear about an accident or road construction backup in time to get off before I am stuck in it. With a GPS running it's not too hard to find a detour. Trouble is not all the information you hear is true now days. Didn't use to be that way.

Think about a handheld
Ch. 19 has more than its share of very foul language so you will need to be tolerant of that. I use a handheld that plugs into the cigarette lighter when I come upon a blockage to determine the nature of the problem. Turn it on when needed and off when cruising. I'm also a ham operator but have never encountered anyone on the national 2 meter simplex frequency of 146.52 MHz.
Some newer GPS units will also alert you to traffic slowdowns and wrecks but I have found that they are not always timely.

I have used CB radio since high school, during the height of the "craze". Still useful as noted above, if you can stand the language and rants. I have a high tolerance for such since I am a retired Navy Sailor. Turn the air "blue" in a heartbeat if needed, and that is not often any more. Now, CINCHOUSE has a VERY low tolerance and shuts the thing off right quick when the language turns ugly.

My husband has trouble hearing my while he rides his motorcycle ahead of me.....CB is nicer than rear ending him to get his attention 😳
