Personally I think you need to define what you consider fair value on trade? You seem to think the numbers game should go in your favor and that ain't never gonna happen. A trade in and purchase is not two separate transactions in the dealer's eyes.

We actually got more for our trade than we paid for said TT a few years before. (It was a used purchase.)
Course I could have bought the V-Lite cheaper (no trade) from a discounter........
But I would have been doing a long haul to pull it home.
All you can do is ask several dealers what yours is worth and you will know it's "wholesale" value.

What do you think your trade number should be? Your definition of fair is not necessarily the definition someone else has, and surely not a dealers. You lost a huge chunk of value the day you hooked it up.

If you go out and shop for the lowest national price you can find, then lay the trade scenario on them, your going to get whacked every time. That's at any dealer. They play the game a lot more than any of us.

Your 2014 Crusader, this time of year in an area where the dealer must carry it over until spring, is going to bring about 18K to 20K on trade and any dealer should offer you that. They'll mark it at 28 or 29 K and have 3 or 4 K overhead carrying it over the winter. They are not going to only make a couple of grand on it that's for sure. If you deal somewhere without winter, you might get a little more.

If they offer much more than that they will get caught with their pants down. They are not going to get top dollar out of it when a little more can get a buyer a new 15 or 16. Another think they will look at is blue book finance values.

When you say "I'm not going to just let the dealer have my trade-in for half of what it's actually worth just to get a low price on the new one." that tells me you are trying to get somewhere in the retail range for a trade in. Good luck with that. The only way you're getting close is to sell it yourself.

All of that being said, Have you tried Labadie RV in Toledo? I received a quote there on trade before that was better than most. Not sure if it was fair.

You could also try Beckey's Camping Center in Thurmont MD. i received what I felt was fair there a few years back.

You are asking for something that does not necessarily exist....... might seem like a great deal one time but not the next........ All dealers are out to make money..........

Our dealer for instance adds a percentage to what they paid you take it or don't They do not haggle on the price of a new unit......... but they have people traveling several hundred miles to buy there but they probably do not give as much on a trade but the deal may be and is better than dealers that start high.........and offer more on a trade in...... Econo RV Bassett VA.........

There is no magic solution on which dealers give the most for a trade..........

Best process I have worked with cars - get the dealer to commit to a price on just the new rig and then roll out the trade in. In the car game there is more $$$$ in used cars for the dealer so i'm sure if you have a popular rig to trade in you can look at the RV NADA guide for appropriate trade value. They always ask if you have a trade in - best answer "Maybe, not sure, could keep it" and let it ride. The best deal always seems to involve selling your own rig and shopping around for the least dollars on the unit you want, but its a hassle!

Ruffs RV in Euclid OH (Cleveland Area) I have traded in a couple units there and have always felt I was getting a good trade in price.

I've only spoken to two dealers and in my opinion neither offered a fair trade in price.
