Check with your insurance company. I think most cover liability while your towing, but no coverage on the trailer.

She was very honest and said "well, when its hooked up to your truck, you have liability on it through your car insurance, and since you don't owe anything on it, the only thing extra insurance would cover is if it somehow damaged someone else's property while not connected to your vehicle."
Think about what she said. If your hitch failed while towing and separated from your truck. Your trailer is now not connected and could take out another vehicle.

When my camper was totaled by the insurance company for hail, I was happy I had it. They took care of everything. One thing that I was really amazed about is just how much stuff I have in there. I had to unload it all into the house and garage. It took many trips and a lot of space. The house was a mess until the new one arrived. I guess I have acquired a lot of stuff for camping over the years. We have special coverage for all that stuff. I'd hate to have that expense out of pocket too.

The coverage on my TT is $23 per year with a $250 deductible. Added to my truck policy with Liberty Mutual in South Carolina. I know rates vary depending on location, but get the insurance. Yes, I did mean per year.

I am a firm believer of RV insurance. I had it on all my pop-ups (3) for a whopping $30/year with a $100 deductible, including the pop-up that was deemed a total loss when a branch broke off a tree during an ice storm and impaled the roof of the pop-up, causing extensive black mold and water damage. I've also lost 2 TTs as total losses and again, thank God for insurance. The first TT I paid cash for ($6000) and received a payoff from my insurance company for $10,000 when the TT was stolen. My second TT ended up with mold caused by a leak that was never found. Again, total loss and payoff from insurance. My advice: pay the $144/year and know you are protected if something happens while the camper is *not* being towed. I know of someone who had their TT stolen out of their driveway, it was not insured because it was paid off (the person had not used a tongue lock) and could not replace the TT because they did not have the money. Tough lesson, in my opinion.

We saw an accident on Interstate 91 yesterday which I hope the family had insurance of some kind, however ~ I'm quite sure they will get a new camper and maybe a truck to boot. The guy had a flat on the trailer, pulled to the side of the highway (no pull offs anywhere around), got his family out of the truck and here came a Walgreen's semi ... you guessed it! Was a glancing blow but there was quite a bit of the campers left rear corner and side missing. Me, yep ~ insured whether at my own home front or on the road, small amount for piece of mind!!

Depends on your insurance. You may be left high and dry. Talk to your insurance agent.

My good Sam policy will take off the cost of collision anytime you have it parked for a month or more so the cost is cut almost in half. So what if the tt came loose from the tow vehicle and hit someone bet the car insurance would wiggle out of that one since the tt wasn't hooked to the. TV. Just say'n

I can assure you if your trailer is registered in Massachusetts your liability is covered by your tow vehicles insurance only....you need a separate policy to cover the trailer for comprehensive, etc.
If not, hold on to your shorts if your involved in an accident and your trailer has to be towed by a recovery company...........no mercy at all! Been there, done that!

Get piec of mind with insurance! Pulled two different tts over 30k miles over the past 7 years. Never an incident, claim or even a flat tire! 6/6/16 was hit by a 18 wheeler entering I40 in NC. Accident that totaled both my tv and 2012 Flagstaff was written up as no fault by police even though independent trucker did not stop. Good Sam wrote a check for blue book of the totaled tt within a week, gave us $3000 contents of rv, overnighted the difference of check I received and the sale price of 2017 Tt to local dealer, including sales tax and title xfer. We were back on road in new TT for the July 4th weekend with only the $250 deductible. And yes a new Good SAMs rv policy. Good SAMs is more costly but they came through for us wth a new Flagstaff tt, no note as previous Tt was paid off. I am still camping with great rv and enjoying my retirement. Good luck to you in you decision.

OK, what can happen? Anything and everything can happen. I pay through the nose for insurance even though I do not have a loan on my motorhome I can not afford the loss if there is any damage to it. I have full coverage but here in Wisconsin the law only requires you to have 25,000.$ liability, that is not enough, I have increased my liability to the required amount for my umbrella policy. I have no worries. The insurance company will fight to protect me because they could face a huge loss.

Fkaske you hit the nail on the head with liability insurance. if some one is hurt or injured in or by your RV you need insurance to cover the costs for doctors and or hospitals.
I also would not like to lose 5,000 dollars for the small amount of 140. dollars.
hope this helps Tim

Is it worth it to insure it, since I only paid $5k for it?

A few years ago I had a 85 olds cutlass for a work car and it was stolen , I carried full coverage on it and I paid $2200.00 and I drove it for several years. when it was stolen even with my deductible I walked away with a $1500.00 check I carried for coverage at $ 30.00 a month so at least I got something

If there are any legal issues associated, the insurance will help with that. The bill for lawyers can easily exceed any value that the rv may have. If a lawyer gets involved you will be glad you have insurance to cover the legal bills. The insurance pays for defense if someone files a suit against you. In that situation the value of the rv has nothing to do with your cost. It can be an unbelievable dollar amount.

There's also another possibility, you leave your TT for a fun filled adventure and return to find that your rig has caught fire for whatever reason and damaged or destroyed your neighbors, who had his prized poodle in his TT, or worse yet his DW! Better have deep pockets for that one!

If you can't afford $10-$20 a month for insurance, you need to check your priorities.
I love those ppl that say that insurance is too expensive and lose all their belongings in a fire/flood/w.h.y., but spend $10/day on Starbucks or smokes.

Well worth it
We have had 2 claims in 12 years and GEICO treated us very well on both claims. First was mice in popup; second was a branch through the roof that totaled the tt. We are WAY ahead on our costs!
