Expectation for Dealer Service

I am almost a new FR owner.

I found a model Hemisphere 312QBUD, made the deal, signed the paperwork and then on final inspection found 2 dozen issues with the product. Some cosmetic but a few show stoppers like a hole punched by a screw on back of flashing to slide. They said it should have been cut off in manufacturing.

Never took possession, dealer held it and sent to a body shop for fiberglass repair and paint under factory warranty. Said it would take a week in body and a few days in a service bay for remediation of the other poor construction issues like propane flex hosts could and flopping with no hanger brackets.

It has been 3 weeks today. After days of calling for status from the service manager, I went to finance to see about canceling the deal. The prompted the sale rep to get involved and the dealer GM. They are working to save the deal. Never have talked to the service manager, only his staff despite many calls.

From the sale rep, I get more story that they now need 2 more weeks to get parts from factory.

Is this normal? Is this what I should expect from service in this product area? Am I just having a local dealer issue or product issue?

Think once they resolve the 2 dozen red tag items, the trailer will be top notch condition compared to just grabbing another Unit of same or similar floor plan.

Or should I call it a lemon and cancel the deal before I have to make payments on a unit I have never possessed?

Honestly, if you are having this much trouble getting service taken care of before the sale I would walk away. When I picked up my unit it had many issues, service dept stayed after hours to correct them. I had more issues after taking possession, my dealership has bent over backwards to help me out, including getting a major slide repair fixed in under two weeks. Forest river has been working hard to make things right for me as well. The dealership did tell me it can take 1-2 weeks to get parts from forest river. Your dealership has already had your unit for 3 weeks and now they want 2 weeks for parts to be ordered. This indicates a dealership that will be difficult to get fixes done in a timely manner in the future. Move to another dealership and get the same or similar trailer. Also, do a search on here for your current dealership and any future dealerships you are considering. There are plenty of reviews here that might be helpful to you. Good luck and I hope you are still able to find a good deal on the same trailer that you love elsewhere.

If possible I would walk away from your deal and dealer, there is alot of better dealers out there.

The dealer seems to be more of the lemon than the rig. I too would walk away from it, but the dealer will try to tell you that you are already committed. Not so.. the contract is dependent on delivery of goods. They have yet to deliver on the contract within a 'reasonable' amount of time. You may want to check with your state.. for them to be in breech of contract... 'reasonable' amount of time may vary or be more defined.

Lesson learned though right? Don't sign for something until it meets your satisfaction. You wouldn't sign a mortgage on a home if you have never been inside it before, right? Once you have signed, some dealers may considers you 'on the hook' and can take their own sweet time. Let your $$'s do the talking for you. :-)

Some are telling you to walk away from the deal...I say don't walk....run!

Once you take delivery...the service will be next to non-existent!

Another vote for walking/running away from the purchase. Is this what you want if you need to take the unit in for any service again???

I have only had great service from my dealer but while saying that I have not had an issue with my unit yet. For my PDI it was winterized, they de-winterized it and showed me everything and then winterized it again before I left the lot. I just bought it a month ago.

I am inclined to agree with the majority here and if you are already having these problems what is it going to be like for future fixes or dealer visits?

I would look into it some more, research them here, do a search with the BBB or other review sites. With all the info I then would make a decision, that decision leaning towards canceling the sale.
