So our Sabre has developed a new Fiberglass crack at the corner where the bunkhouse slide out is located. It appears to be a crack from a screw and not a stress point but I can't be sure until it is repaired.
Since the unit was going to the dealer I asked them to address it but they have to "schedule" a fiberglass guy to come fix it as they don't keep one on staff. I left the unit for other work thinking they were scheduling the Fiberglass guy. When we picked it up they said they still needed to get it scheduled and for now they filled it with... Silicone!
Since it wasn't fixed, I asked them about stop drilling the crack and they said they don't do that. So right now I'm traveling around with the crack unaddressed. I'm a bit concerned about it getting worse but I also don't want to do anything that would cause them to not warranty it in the future as it will still need grooved out and filled. On the other hand I don't want to let it go and get much worse and have it become a major fix down the road. I'm not a fiberglass guy so if I need to stop drill it myself what size in relation to the crack and how deep into the surface do I need to drill?
If they fill it and it reappears then I'll likely have to see about a factory fix for the frame issue. My only optimism is that it appears to be from the screw hole. But that doesn't exactly explain why the crack started in the first place.
I would be setting up an appointment at the factory... Should not crack like that unless the framing underneath was not right... atleast as far as I know. I wouldn't screw around with it.
When I asked them about stop drilling the crack, the service manager looked at me questioningly and said "what's that?" When I explained it he said they don't do that...
Of course when my water pump check valve got blocked and my fish tank filled from the city port he said he had never heard of that before as well. Then when they adjusted that slide because it was leaving marks on the floor they added exposed plywood to the bottom of the slide which is now delaminating due to getting wet in the rain.
They aren't exactly inspiring confidence...
I'll work n calling the factory guys. Start with the warranty number?
We have the same issue with a Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite - had the crack fixed one week - went camping the next and it cracked again. When the fiberglass guy dug a little deeper turns out the frame was cracked at the top corner of the slide. Not under warranty but he is dealing with FR as he said it was not properly welded.
