Freezer not cold enough - help

We have a new TT (2007 Rockwood 8317SS) and are getting ready to take her out for the first time. The TT is plugged in out in the driveway and I have had the refrigerator turned on for 24 hours (it is empty). The refrigerator temp reads okay but the freezer temp is not in the safety zone. It is a simple Dometic refrig. The only temp control is a slide on the inside of refrig. compartment that says warmer / colder, no controls in the freezer. How can I get the freezer cole enough? If I may the refrig. colder will the freezer get colder too? Thanks for the help!!!!

try running it on propane for awhile it will cool down, aslo add a package to teh freezer something it can get cold
thats a big hole to cool without and object in it

are teh coils inside teh fridge iced up or clear and cold

Hi campfarrar. Sometimes the freezer work better when there is something in it, an ice cube tray or anything. Also depending on how hot it is where you are you may find the frig works better on gas. I usually start mine the night before leaving on gas and load it the next day. Is there any frost in the inside of the freezer sides? There is also a little heater switch for humidity between the doors or on the side. Try pushing the slide to coldest it can't hurt. Make sure the frig vent isn't blocked by birds or other critters. aLso how level are you sitting. The more level the better. Just some tips to consider hope they help.

It helps to place a bag of ice in the freeze to help cool it down quicker. Like powerboatr said, that's a big area to cool with nothing in it. Also, try flipping the small switch above the freezer door(small rocker switch, for humid climate, have to open the door to see it), this may help.

I've heard of this same thing. Most always because of dust on the coils or out of level. The fact that the fridge is cold but the freezer is not rules out the Out of Level part.

One other thing to look at is the seal around the freezer portion. Any problems with that sealing? I guess I am a lucky one. My fridge works very well on gas or electric and the freezer will make a new tray of ice within an hour.

I keep three trays of ice in there at all times. Seem to help once it gets frozen it stays that way. My dometic does not work as good as the norcold I had in my old Playmor

I had a similar problem on my 2006 8317SS. The fridg would cool enough, not very well, and the freezer was cold, but wouldn't freeze stuff. I took it to the dealer and they almost couldn't find the problem, but finally did. It was some small regulator of some kind. Something that they said rarely goes bad. It's worked great ever since.

My Dometic would not get below 48 degrees and took it in to dealer and Dometic replaced it. The new one works great.

I had some similar problems with my RM model - it ruined several loads of food etc. I came to the conclusion that it was effected by being level. It would work fine - then if uneven for a little while it would stop cooling and then as the issues progressed it wouldn't cool at all. After a few days of being turned off it would start working again. But I didn't trust it anymore. I ordered a new one and we have been very careful to keep it level for extended periods of time.

It will get down to temp quicker on propane, but after 24 hours, it should be down to temp no matter how you started it. I start mine the day before on electric, and 12 hours is plenty to get mine up to speed.
