General 5er info.

Hi guys.

We know nothing about 5th wheels and are looking for a little info.

Who makes the best quality? We don't want to spend that much money and have it fall apart five years later.

Also, what about the overall height? We are pricing up the cost of a lean-to over hang off the side of the barn to park it under.

I see you are looking over threads on this, but all I can say is we love our Sabre! We had a 28bh travel trailer, about 32' from hitch to bumper, and moved to a nearly 40'fiver and it pulls so much better! As for height, we are about 13'-6" tall with a second AC. As for quality, I think they all have some issues and it's more about how you handle or respond to them. In fact, our Sabre is headed back to the factory this late fall for major sidewall work, but I have little concern at this point. I believe they will take care of it and probably find other things to tidy up for us too.

We're looking for longevity. How long will it/they last? They're awfully expensive to be replacing every five years.

That depends on how well you maintain them if you can fix the little problems before they turn in to big ones you will be good for many years . The roof and seals are a major part keep your eye on the calking around the front and back caps roof vents and calking on the body

I have no concerns in keeping ours until the kids are out of the house and I have a 2 year old. . I have a good friend with a 10 year old fiver and it still like almost new. Take care, wash and wax, and most importantly keep sealant in place as iceblaze said.

The better ones are rated for full time living and will cost more, weight more and require a bigger TV. You need to know how you will use it, a few trips and a few week long trips, you can get by with the ones listed above, but if you plan on extended trips of months at a time, then go with a better, heavier and more expensive one with a 350 or 3500 to pull it.
