Hot water question

Hi, you guys have been very helpful with my last few questions so I'm going to put myself out there again we have a Solaire 307 which we were finally able to dewinterize this weekend. I noticed that during winterizing and dewinterizing, I followed the directions to bypass the hot water tank and then add the AF. When I did that, and then turned on the hot water faucets to run the AF through, I got nothing. So, I removed the anode, plugged it with the 3/4" plug and repeated. All worked fine. I Drained the HWT. This spring, I kept the drain plug in, and again had to run the hot water with bypass off to flush the hot water lines. I still haven't put the anode rod back in just yet. Am I reading the directions wrong or is this just something hinky that I will need to remember for the fall again? Thanks for all of your great advice! This forum has gotten me "off the ledge" more than once as I learn about RVs!
