I don't think the kw1 has been around that long.

There's different types of filters that come in at different price points. Fiber filters usually cost less than $5 while carbon block filters cost $10-$35 depending on they type of filter and where you purchase it. Filters are rated by ths smallest particles that they will allow to pass, ie 5 micron or 10 micron.

All filters remove particulates. Carbon filters pass the water through a "bed" of carbon that has the surface area of at least a football field. This carbon filter also removes some of the dissolved minerals, something the fiber filters can't do. Carbon filters also will trap bacteria and some other nasty parasites.

A 10,000 gallon filter has a tremendous capacity. If your RV has a 50 gallon water tank, you're talking about 200 tanks of water. A full timer, using two tanks of water a week, should get around two years use from one of these filters. Changing the filter once a year for anyone who uses an RV for 20 weeks or less is definitely more than enough to keep the filter in good condition.

I use the carbon block filters. I also double filter the water, using a Camco (blue) filter at the hydrant, before the hose, and the internal one in the plumbing compartment of the RV. The only time I switch to fiber filters is when I fill the tank with city water at home. I do this to run the chlorinated water through the RV's water system. I also have a dissolved mineral content water tester. High mineral content water is never put in the fresh water tank and if it's really bad, I just use water from the tank and refill it from a better supply later.

Funny I buy my KW1 cartridges for 3 for $20 at Goshen. I also bought a case of 12 external Camco filters for $2 a piece at a local surplus place.

I thought I saved the filter box but of course I didn't. The filter is made by Water Pur Company. It looks like a model CCI-10-CLW? I think the filter is a model CCI-10-C. I don't remember the filter as being very expensive when I bought it at Home Depot. The inlet and outlet are 180' apart and appear to be 3/4" piping.

I hope I got this info right, it is hard to read the way the housing is turned.

Quite often I do use camp ground water for drinking or to make coffee but I run this water through a Brita water filter first.

Ok, I give. What would Coconut Carbon do? Going to have to look at them when I go to HD. That is where my dealer suggested I pick up filters. Said he can't compete with them.

Last time I Goggled CC-10 Water Filter,,, all I saw was Coconut Carbon !!!
Have not had time to look into what they are,,, maybe organic ???
You may find them cheaper on-line ???
Maybe they make your water taste like Coconut ???

Thanks! It was an interesting article but the bottom line is shown below.
