How to tell if water heater is on or off

Is there away from within the camper to tell if the water heater is finished heating the water? We have a gas only water heater. I can tell if it's on outside because we hear the rush of gas. We can't hear this inside the camper. Is there some sort of remote indicator kit available?

I believe listening for a sound is about it.

Wow! You are lucky! Mine is EASY to hear in the trailer!
I don't know of any remote way to know but you could
probably run a wire from the control board to an indicator
light inside.

The hot-water heater in our new trailer also doesn't make much noise when the burner is burning. We have found we can save the amount of propane it uses by only turning it on when we do dishes or take showers. It has been our experience that it takes about 20 minutes to heat the water & shut off.

rcase13 you can also buy a "hot rod" it makes a propane water heater into a electric one.

I have used the Hot Rod kit on a 5th wheel a few years ago and loved it.

Our GT 325 MH gas system has a red light in the "gas WH" switch. If it's heating, the light is on, when the thermostat swiches off, the light goes out. If yours doesn't, it wouldn't be a big deal to wire the light off the thermostat.

Of course, the roaring noise of the burner is a very good indication, particularly at 0:dark:30!

After reading your post, I was reminded of how I was sure my water heater was gas only, but later discovered it was actually gas/electric. I went to the FR web site and they don't say one way or the other what comes standard on the Microlite 21FB. However, I found at least two other sites that show a gas/electric water heater as standard on the 2011 model. If you have checked this out thoroughly, please disregard this post. I recommend that you look closely for a electric switch which is onside the exterior cover hidden away in the lower left corner behind a pipe. I had to get in there with a flashlight to find mine.

Mine has the light that is on when operating in gas mode, then automatically switches on/off as needed to hold the pre-set temperature. I can't hear mine inside the camper at all , either. Randy
