Thanks. The mesh holes on the hood filter are too wide, allowing smaller insects to pass right through. In addition the hood filter mount has 1/4" x 1/4" square holes on each side of the filter which allow the larger insects through. It is a design flaw of the Heng's RO424500-C1 vent hood.

[EDIT] Also, who wants a ton of dead bugs inside their vent hood? Yuck.

I was referring to the comment about cooking greasy foods would clog a screen on the outside, most is caught by hood filter.

I watched a video some time ago where a couple got annoyed from the cover flapping in the wind while driving their motorhome. They removed the microwave / rangehood, installed a 12 Volt electromagnet in the wall opening wired to an on/off switch near by and a steel fender washer on the flap. 'On' energizes the magnet and pulls the flap shut, 'Off' allows the fan to push it open. You might be able to do the same if you're willing to go through the hassle involved with pulling the rangehood.

Oooh, very interesting concept. I wonder if it could be applied to the fan switch? I wonder if there is a way to switch electromagnet polarity, off=attract, on=repel? That way it automatically disengages the magnet when the fan is turned on.

Insects coming in camper via range hood vent

We just found out about the range hood vent. And we can’t open it, afraid of breaking the tabs. It appears to be painted shut. I came looking for a solution but I think I’ll leave it. Our window screens are not fitted well and are interstate highways for insects.

I think everyone has faced this dilemma...

I pushed and pulled and finally with the help of a butter knife I got the vent door open... it gets easier with use.
