Just curious ??

Through my searches on the web for a new RV. I've noticed that on the 2015 rockwood models that the tongue is placed different on the frame some are on the bottom and some are on the top. Same model and year. Does any one why they do this . Is one better than the other? If so does any one know why? I never towed one that was on the bottom.

Thanks

Jayco does several on the bottom typically. I wonder if they are doing this due to tow vehicle heights?

I know (IF) you have a Tall TV with a Low mount/under mount ball receiver on the tongue of the trailer, the Drop bracket for the (Hitch Head) you use will be Very $$$! Youroo!! There was one Member on here that had his (Changed back and forth) the dealer welded both Styles on the Tongue!

The flipside of youroo's point is that with undermount couplers can be a real headache with some WDHs, especially with those with built in sway control.

Thanks for all the info. Now I am wondering if the unit has the lower mounted hitch on it if I should stay away or not .Is there anyone with the lower mounted coupler having any info that they can share good or bad ? I also noticed that on the same model TT's at the dealers that some were on the top and some were on the bottom . Wish I knew what determines witch one gets witch when they are the same year make and model??? Maybe like what was mentioned in the other thread it's what ever is available.

There's very likely no specific reason other than what the supplier had. FR uses Lippert chassis (among other Lippert items), but Lippert does not make their own couplers. They use a supplier. There's no difference as far as coupler function goes to a chassis with either when properly installed.
