Length ???

I have a silly question. When you are quoting your trailer's length for purposes of selecting parking spots or insurance and tagging specifications do you quote your box length, or the overall length from hitch to rear bumper? I've assumed the tip-to-tail length is more useful than just the living quarters but I other references to rig lengths that make me think that is not uniform.

You will get both answers, but the park we go to the most if you don't use tip to tail (bumper to hitch end) your trailer you could be in the aisle and you might be asked to move on, as their 850 sites are often full.

My opinion is always use the overall length of the trailer.

When Iím requesting a campsite I tell them itís a 30í trailer when in fact it is 26í bumper to hitch. The extra feet give me a little more wiggle room which has come in handy on some back in sites. When it comes to insurance and plate fee I just give them the model number. In Michigan we have permanent trailer plates (one time fee) for utility, cargo and travel trailers.

Like a few others stated above. Length matters.

I've asked this question before, most parks, storage space etc will want the actual length. So it will be end to end, tip of the ball hitch to the end of the bumper or spare tire or anything that will stick out such as my cargo carrier which is folded up.

It's also good to know your tow vehicle length as well. RV parks will want to know this so they can assign you to the proper space to accommodate your trailer plus tow vehicle.

Check with your states DMV website when it comes to registration and tags. Most say it must be hitch to bumper. Insurance companies take what your state require. When it comes to reserving camp sites give them what is on your registration.

I always use the tip to bumper length. That way I know I will fit plus look for larger sites that would fit my truck as well. We don't stay in RV parks very often but when we do I include the size of the truck. It is about only 5 inches shy of my trailer.

Hmmm...I have to be careful with this issue because we bring two motorcycles along...so if the length of the site isn't listed I'll stretch the truth by 10 or 15 feet depending on what the satellite photo looks like.
