The debate on what type of bed length and or what type of SRW/DRW truck and what engine type will continue until the manufactures stop building trucks. Everyone has their needs and wants, also anyone can justify their needs based on their needs.

I have chosen a 2008, 2500,6.7L Ram Mega Cab which has a short bed but for the MY is the same wheel base as a Ram Crew Cab Long Bed truck. Both of these models of trucks will fit in my garage, in fact I have a three foot work bench and two feet behind the truck, so I can walk around the truck with the door closed.

To me the wheel base is what everyone should consider when choosing a truck, a longer wheelbase truck will ride better with a 5er is attached. So a regular cab with a long bed truck which has a shorter wheelbase than a mega cab short bed truck would not ride as will. I will always choose a mega cab short bed truck over a long bed truck anytime. Why a bigger roomy cab and a longer wheelbase with the short bed,so for me this in the perfect truck that meets my needs.

My last 2 trucks have been short beds and used a slider hitch just traded up to a 3500hd DRW lond bed and it rides better than the 2500hd short bed did and since i dont need the slider we upgraded to the new
pull rite superlite inverted gosseneck hitch it works just like the video it pretty slick.
the garage is always full of other toys so no cars fit in it anyway if needed we can get them inthe machine shed
to me the dully was nothing to get used to driving, and i figure parking way out in parking lots is good exercise to get to the store
but i figure the extra room in the bed should come in handy for camping, more stuff to haul anround

Thanks for all the info. I am settled on getting a 1ton to make sure that we can get most of the 5ers out there that we would be looking at. I think in the end I will get the short bed, the wife will be driving the truck from time to time so just to make it easier for her the short bed is going to be the best option. My father in law has a 2016 3/4 ton Denali that's a short box and after driving that I think that I am pretty much sold on that set up just the Chevy version.

Paddytbud, just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have a 1 ton dually long bed and with all the campers having rounded corners my next truck will be a short bed. I bought the long bed for the reason of towing but someone we camp with has a short bed and has a fixed hitch. Hasn't had any problems getting in or out of anywhere.

Just remember Chevy has 2 different short beds. Crew cab is 5.5ft, double cab is 6.6ft.

Ha ha. I have a 2016 Chevy 2500HD Diesel crew cab short bed. It's ok that it's a girly truck. I'm a girl and I use it for towing my girly 36 footer tt.

I have F350 short bed 6.5 foot and I have to be careful not to hit the cab but I also have to be careful not hit tree. Just be careful towing/backing and watcch whats you are doing.

I tried to fit a F150 Crew Cab in my garage and wouldn't fit but my F350 Super Cab fits fine. The F150 had 145 inch wheel base and my F350 has a 143.5 inch wheel base. I also will say with a 39.5 foot fiver I wish I had the longer wheel base truck.

My F150 was long.
Then a short ram 2500
Then a short F350
Then a short ram 3500.

Next will be long. Never short again.
