Towing - 9.5 to 11.0
Not towing - 17.0 to 22.9

2014 F150, ecoboost, max tow etc.

Frankly, if I have to worry about 9.5, 22.0, 10.5 etc, I probably should give up camping. If my trip costs an extra 20 or 50 bucks, who cares. I am doing what I enjoy.

Just match the truck you are using to the trailer you are pulling and vice versa. I have always towed with 1/2 ton vehicles properly equipped (since the early 1970's) without issues. These trips were anything from local trips, under 100 miles to long trips over 5000 miles with trailers that were anywhere from 5600 to 7200 lbs dry. In all my years of towing, I had one mishap. We were towing a large Starcraft popup with an older Cutlass salon and blew an airshock on the QEW. Not fun. That is when I switched to trucks.

Year, make, and capacity of tow vehicle: 2014 Ram 3500 Mega Cab 4x2 DRW
Weight of tow vehicle: 14,250 lbs by sticker on the door.
Engine and fuel type: 6.7L Cummins Diesel
Weight of loaded trailer or fifth wheel: About 12,000
Average speed while towing: What the speed limit is and condition of roads
Average terrain (level, hilly, or mountainous 'L,H,M'): L,H,M
Average Miles Per Gallon: 10 to 13 mpg
And with that said I didn't get my truck for mpg. I got it for it's RAW PULLING POWER.

So where's my Tundra buddies?

These are my specs:

Year, make, and capacity of tow vehicle: 2014 Toyota Tundra TRD 4x4
Weight of tow vehicle: 5,750
Engine and fuel type: 5.7-liter DOHC EFI V8, V6, aluminum block V8, with 24-valve alloy head with Dual VVT-i (Gasoline and Flex-Fuel but I don't ever put in Flex-Fuel)
Weight of loaded trailer or fifth wheel: ~8,000
Average speed while towing: 55-65 (depends on whether ascending or descending mountain passes)
Average terrain (level, hilly, or mountainous 'L,H,M'): Mountainous (4,000 - 14,000 feet)
Average Miles Per Gallon: With no tow: ~17 mpg; With Rocky: ~12-14 mpg

As a side note, my only gripe with the Tundra is the 25-gallon tank. While we don't mind stopping often for a break, sometimes the older small towns in the mountain areas are over 100-years old so the roads aren't the easiest for navigation with a large truck and 33-foot trailer....but we make it work!

My specs are about the same as ColoradoRick, except that when towing I only get 7 mpg.

We went up to the UP of MI from S KY and traveled West to Glacier National park on RT 2. Then on to Yellowstone, ID, WA, OR, Crater Lake, Lake Tahoe, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia. Down to I-40 and chased home by nasty storms. We took almost all scenic by-ways and traveled some unreal steep roads. Some were even 7% the steepest I have ever driven. We averaged about 9 MPG and that included time when we camped and drove around like the Going to the sun highway. 2015 GMC Denali HD 2500 6.0 GAS, and my TT probably weighs in at 8000 loaded. That was 9360 miles in 53 days and 18 states. I usually drove 55-60 on 2 lane roads, not in the mountains, and 60-65 on the Interstates. I would also add DO NOT BUY GAS IN Needles, CA. Those suckers ripped me off big time. I set up camp at a nice place outside of town and unhooked to go fill up. Up to this time the most we had to pay was a bit over $3 a gallon and that was only at high dollar resort areas. Most of the time it was around 2.50 to 2.75. BUT Needles charged me $4.10 a gallon. I was screwed, I needed fuel. The next day not 30 miles down the road I saw fuel for 2.70. So I hope everyone who is traveling that area will boycott those rotten thieves.

Is your truck automatic or manual?
Jeff,

Mine is automatic. Love my truck. This is an interesting thread. I am getting some ideas for my next truck

TO ALL,

BTW, I forgot to mention that my MPG was hand calculated. The trip computer is off by about 2MPG (reads higher than hand calculation)
