Monthy Costs of Ownership

This may be a difficult question to answer, but what is the estimated monthly cost of owning your rig? I realize that many factors enter into the equation, and the cost will be different for most. However, excluding line items like fuel for your tow vehicle and monthly loan payments, I am curious to know how much you spend to operate and/or maintain your rig. Thanks in advance for your response.

Neither of our travel trailers we have owned has really cost us anything yet other than insurance, payments and fuel for the TV since we started with RVing 4 years ago.

General maintance item like the re-caulk, wash (not a general maintance item, more like a on gong thing). The onky cost I have is winter storage.

Not sure what my extra monthly costs are, but I can say with some certainty that if you can resist the urge to visit Camping World, your dealer's accessories store, or the MODS section on this site you will save a ton of money.

Seems like my camper fits the "boat profile"; a hole in the water into which you pour money.

Seriously, I am a hobbyist when it comes to the camper. I am always buying something to tweet or improve a perceived "weak area" even if one currently does not exist. Like having a 200 dollar box of Eterna-bond tape and primer in the basement "just in case I feel like climbing on the roof today."

Oh well; another beer and there is always tomorrow. Yesterday I replaced a wall switch that provided power to the bathroom lights and the powered ceiling vent with a two switch model. It is always something it seems.

Payment is 153, insurance is about 30 dollars. license a year is about 80 or so.

Maint cost none yet. I bought it and parked on yard and now have about 2 feet of snow around it.

This is for a brand new 2011 BHKS TT

Like Lou said. Most of my cost at first (I hope) are mods and giving it the home feel.

Scubieman. Your insurance cost is next to nothing. Our is close to 450$ per year but we dont have to renew the licence every year. The licence is for the life of your unit.

I'm like Herk, constantly buying something here or there. I don't spend money on anything but my truck and trailer though. We are on a permanent site and cost is $975 per year. Insurance is about $360 a year with 500 deductable.

Thanks, everyone. I assumed that the costs would be varied and am hoping that a new rig will have minimal costs, outside of travel expenses, for the first few years. I am surprised by the range in insurance costs, though. We are paying $80/$250 deductible per year through Erie Insurance. Very inexpensive.

I throw $300 a month at the account i set up for the payments to come out of. insurance for it and my collector car are 200 for a year.

all in all its cheap but long for the financing. good thing is since its an RV i can pay off extra chunks and no penalty for it. I was financed through TD bank (Toronto Dominion)

Well I may be an excpetion to the norm, we took a 12 month loan on our TT and are paying 497.79 monthly payment (only have 5 more to make), 34.00 a month for insurance, and 55.00 a month for storage. Now as for going on a trip that cost's hundreds with gasoline/supplies/site fee's/etc.

I just looked at the registration- we pay 50.00 for the plates and 240.00 in tax to the township. the tax will go down every year, most likely to be replaced by another tax!

Hi Everyone,
I have a 09 Cedar Creek RD5S which is parked at an rv lot on a beautiful lake. It is open for 6 mths. This years assessment is 1300. It includes water, hydro, garbage, taxes, warf space for a boat, and the use of all park grounds, tennis court, golf, horse shoes etc. I pay cable at $110, internet $36, for the 6 mths, and the only other thing is insurance for the whole year is $700 as I have total replacement value. So
I could say that close to $180 a mth. A cost of a good Hotel room for one night. To maintain my unit so far has cost very little as it is pretty new and no problems so far.I think I am lucky.
