Need to do a poll on how long travel trailer is and age of person doing the driving.
We just recently bought a Forest River Surveyor Select SV305 and I've been wondering if we bit off more than we can chew. The length of it is 36' 4". It could be just me, but there seems to be a big difference than our 29U that we had earlier. We are getting close to retirement age so was wondering how old is too old. I want to really be able to enjoy our new camper and I really love it and how much easier it is to set up. Need some opinions.

I'm 33 and have a 42' camper.
I'm just hopeful when I'm 42 that I do not have a 53' camper.

I think that as long as you can safely drive, park and setup your rig - you're not too old!

I'm not sure what age has to do with it. Sometimes, with age comes experience so you could drive a bigger rig. If the truck is big enough for the trailer, then it doesn't matter how old or young you are; it will drive nicely.
To answer your question, I am 30 and my trailer is just under 34' long total. My life would be much better with a bigger truck but I am getting into seasonal next year so the truck won't much matter anymore. I say you aren't getting too old, go out and enjoy yourself.

I'm 62 and have a 29 ft 3ft shorter than the last one, but does age vs. size matter?

I'm 40 and the Roo is just shy of 25'
Agreed that age has nothing to do with it. Overall driving (w/ trailer) experience, your particular vehicle setup, and a healthy dose of spacial awareness are key elements if you ask me.
That said, nothing wrong with being a little nervous about pulling any trailer the first time or two, it is shiny new after all.

Brother-in-law is 87 and pulled a 31' Airstream until a few years ago when he stepped (up) to a 36' Airstream MH, and he pulls a toad behind it - still drives it all over the country.
Age is just a state of mind!

I'm 37 and pulling a 32'er and I'm upgrading to a bigger 5'er in a few years. Our camp neighbor down in VA beach was 62 and pulling a '40 5'er with a 350 dually, though he looked and acted like he was 30 still, and another one just retired at 66 and was driving a '42 motorcoach. Age is just a number, pull with whatever your comfortable with.

Late 50's for me, early 60's for DH. We tow an 18 ft Toy Hauler. We don't need more space and would need a bigger truck to go longer anyways.
Our last TH was a 2000 16 ft. Carson FunRunner and we would have kept it if the shower wasn't so cramped.

For me, just turned 34 and tow a 26' (box) 29.5' over all TT.
For my parents dad 67, mom 63. Last summer they went on a "roller coaster" they towed the same 2003 37' 5er for 10yrs sold it, bought 2009 28' HM had for 3 months traded for 2013 31' 5er.
My cousins grandpa is 82 or 83, he still tows a 32' 5er. And during the spring and fall drives semi with 42' hopper bottom grain trailer for the company he sold to his sons (my cousins dad). He has told me more than once, age is just a number. He is in great health and goes to get a physical 2 times a year, before each hauling season.
