New FR Pin Weights

Forest River has updated their site to show the new color patterns for their 5th wheel and TT's. They have also changed almost all the pin weights on their fifth wheels (some substantially) with no apparent structure or floor plan changes.
My question is, does anybody know, or know how to find, a viable explanation for this?

If I recall correctly, wasn't Forest River starting a change over in frame manufactures this year?

I wonder if the new (if true) manufacture has moved the axle/s back on the frame.
This would add to the pin weight.

That could be part of the equation I guess. Forest River is changing some brands and models over to Norco Industry bal frames from the old standard LCI Lippert Frames.

I am sure that beefing up the pin box area has directly added to the pin loading.

But does anyone know if this is what was done...or is it speculation?

I am just guessing about the axle placement.
Only way to know for sure would be to drag a tape around a couple of older ones and then check a couple of the newest frames.

One thing I will bet on is that the old manufacture did not hand over any templates to the new one.
So there is bound to be some differences.

Pure speculation on my part but it makes sense and won't alter the basic floor plan at all.

If there are any real changes they probably will happen with the 2015 model year, again just a guess on my part.

How about a link to that post? The Cedar Creek and Silverback line haven't changed that I can see.

Thanks ependydad, I guess the changes aren't across the board at FR but just a couple of their brands.

We are ordering a 2014 Wildcat 282RKX in 3 weeks (January 2014). When visiting the Wildcat factory this past fall they were in the process of changing over to Norco Ind. Bal Frames.

Not sure on which models the new frames will be used on, but the 282RKX was getting the new frame. 2013 brochure states hitch weight of 1,280, website now states the 2014 282RKX has a hitch weight of 1,385. Also dry weight is up about 400lbs.

I checked the differences between the published 2013 Surveyor SVF293 fifth wheel and the 2014 unit. The pin weight was 111 lbs heavier and the real surprise was the height w/AC increased by 1'1". That's quite a change. It looks like the differences might be a different frame as noted earlier. Did anyone who noted an increase in pin weight note a change in height too?
2013 pin weight = 1681 lbs 2013 Height w/AC = 11'6"
2014 pin weight = 1792 lbs 2014 Height w/AC = 12'7"

Just got an official, unofficial answer from FR on the 8282ws.
140lb increase in pin weight and 400lb increase in total weight are the result of moving the axles forward and beefing up the frame for reasons including, but not limited to, the 2 opposing slides on this particular model.
Was also told that based on my VIN, my 2014 and most likely all the 2014's are of the new, heavier 8282ws.

Interesting. I wonder if that holds true for the entire Rockwood/Flagstaff 2014 lineup.?
