Nope he didn`t want to but a Reese because he was mis informed! The EQ is a glorified friction sway control hitch!

But you can`t be all that bad! you did buy a Forest River product!

In theory with the reese it is locked into a straight line with each other. It would be much harder to push 8 wheels around vs 4 + 4 connected via friction point that would give easier than having to over come the force required to move the WD bars out of the notches.

and because it doesn't release on gradual turns, it will push the TV.

The pressure created by the DC is no where near enough to lock the TT straight to the point it doesn`t pivot! the Hensley may do this but not the DC. the DC still offeres the best in sway control.

Not sure why you're dogging out the Hensley, considering it is the ONLY hitch that will guarantee no sway. You sound like a reese salesman. The Dodge does have a shorter wheelbase than other 3/4 tons, which is also a consideration Hook. I am done with this thread though. Always investigate before you buy.

Just my opinion, I love the Reese Dual cam setup we have, I am sure the EQ and Hensley Are Awesome too, But the Reese Has proved its weight in gold going through Pacheco pass with wind gusts over 35 MPH, I am glad there are so many options for us out there!!!!

Yea true, but that would eliminate my Excursion

You could get a "hitch buddy". I've looked at their website and it looks like it could work. Haven't read any testimonials though.

For the first time camper, we depend on the dealer to sell us the proper equipment to tow with and the service dept to install it correctly. For the Veterans of camping, they have had the experience with most of the equipment that is used and know of other solutions. Under this thread, I am refuring to page #3 under " IT'S HOME " by Cbduece. A manual was posted by NDJOLLYMON about the REESE dual cam sway control, I suggest that if anyone has this type of hitch and you do not have a manual it would be good to print it out, I did and guess what? I found 6 different thing wrong with the instulation. I started camping in 2000 and had the same hitch and never Had a problem for 5 years. In 2005 I step up to the the ROCKWOOD 8314ss. My camper was back to the dealers two times for hitch problems, this is the dealer I bought my first camper from in 2000 " very happy at that time thats why I went back! Any way, I have posted pic on what I have found. I color coded the problem areas to pin point my findings. pic #1. shows all the problems. pic #2. RED shows the U- bolt in the wrong direction and the chain on the wrong side. pic #3. GREEN the cam arm yoke is adjusted too far out. pic#4. BLUE frame plate is in the optional position instead of the preferred position, there is nothing in the way to set it up this way. pic. #5 shows uneven wear on the cam arm. think this is caused by the chain being on the wrong side of the hanger bracket. I have two more pic to post.

pic. # 6 YELLOW the snap-up bracket is not streight up, it is angeled more to the right that means the sping bar is not in the right position. pic. # 7ORANGE shows the distance from the center of the hitch ball to the frame plate, the manual says 18 inchs, mine is 17.5inchs.

Don't really think any of those things will affect how it works to eliminate sway.

Your cam lobe isn't worn any more than mine was after a year.

.5 inch off on the bracket is nothing since there is plenty of arm adjustment.

The u bolt can face in or out, not going to affect anything.

The set up itself may need some tweaking to give you better sway control.

rockwood06, I notice your chain has 11 links... mine has 9. Just curious. I want to run with 3 hanging but I still don't have mine set up right. I'll work on it this winter so maybe next spring I'll feel more comfortable with it. I won't go into details, as I'm sure everybody is sick of hearing hitch problems. I know I am. And I'm one that has 'em.

The U-bolt do indeed need to be on the inside of the hanger plate! the nuts to the outside. everything else is OK. the wear on the cam arm is normal and will seat over time. BTW make sure to always keep the WD bars on the same side. this will keep the wear in the arm to a minimum. with the DC it doesn`t matter if the snap up bracket is to the front or the rear of the plate. the chain no longer moves as on a standard WD hitch.
