Good morning all! We (my husband and 3 kids) are new to this forum but not new to camping. In the spring we purchased our first 5th wheel (had two class c's) prior. Have not taken possession of it yet as we are searching for a truck to pull it. Have settled on a 2013 dodge 3500 dually. One choice has a AISIN trans in it the other doesn't. $3k difference. Has anyone have any experience with the AISIN? Our 5er is a 2014 crusader 360 bhs 40'.

I'm not sure about the AISIN, however, we have a Dodge Ram 3500 dually, for our almost 40fter and the truck hardly knows the 5th wheel is back there.

If you plan on towing the fiver alot I would opt for the aisin tranny! If your just doing small weekend trips the reg may suit you

I have the '12 3500 DRW with the regular 6 spd, works great with our 42' 5er. One of our ambulances at work is a '13 4500/ aisin transmission, works well. The only difference I can tell is shift point are a little higher in rpm. May be the rear gears too. Can't go wrong with either. The cummins is a beast.

Edit: we obviously don't tow with the ambulance, but it performs well for how we use it.

I have a 2012 like Chewie. In fact, our trucks could likely be attractive cousins. If I bought a new truck today, I'd include the aisin transmission solely because it's an upgrade offered but not because I feel like anything is missing.
