I always have a spare 20 in back of truck.....for outdoor cooking. LP grill, LP griddle, LP fyer stove, LP outside 'fake campfire'.....I have them everywhere here at home. They fit in those plastic milk crates.
I have had to use a 20lb'r in an emergency. Problem is the installed hose won't reach when inserted into the holder. I had to put a wood block under it to use.

On a related topic, I just installed this today:

LPG Tank Check Dual Sensor with Monitor Kit - AP 024-1000 - Fuel Efficiency - Camping World

Works like a champ. No more guessing on LP level.

was at the store and I checked the price of a 20 lb cylinder exchange. $21.99 for 15 lbs of propane in the exchange tank. propane weighs 4.2 lbs per gallon, so 15 lbs is 3.5 gallons. that 15 lb exchange cylinder costs $6.28 per gallon. I can get my cylinders refilled around here for about $1.80 gallon. (plus they give a punch out card for one free 20 gallon fill after 10 five gallon or more refills).

You have to consider the price and volume difference a convenience fee. Same principle applies for buying just about anything in a convenience store. Sure you can get it cheaper at Wal-Mart, but it's more convenient to get it at the aptly titled "convenience store".

How much do you shell out at campground stores, to keep from having to drive into town. I think I once paid $8 for a two pack of AA batteries at a campground store, and these were like Panasonics or something. Not even a Duracell.

Just read an article about those, they look like a great investment.

Bought that long ago. They work great. One thing~~ the monitor is adjusted for a 20# tank and will read full until lower than 20#. You can get the 30# range by using the app on your phone.

For you guys saying I don't camp enough in winter. I'll guess I put more nights in during winter ( plus fall and spring) than most. Does it count if winter is in FL?

I guess the whole idea of switching out the 30 for 40# tanks just isn't worth it. I will just make sure the tanks are full before I start and check them all the time as we don't do much winter camping but if I did, I have 3 brand new 20's that are full and ready to go with me if needed.

I like the propane for the grill, stove top inside, and to run the HWH, electric for water heater doesn't refresh as well.

Before I left for FL in December I filled one of my 30LB tanks at my local Costco for C$10.93. Here in FL I paid US $26 and $30 for two refills. I use about a tank a month and this includes furnace usage but i have electric space heaters and a fireplace. I get the feeling that energy costs in the US are v high not withstanding the fracking boom.
