Remove propane tanks for winter or not?

Good evening,

Just curious if anyone removes their propane tanks during the winter and stores them inside? We're in MD and winters can be a bit cold, but I've never consider it until winterizing today and thought it made sense.

Thanks,

Doug

You mean as inside the house? Really bad idea. I wouldnt have any kind of a loaded propane tank inside my residence or even garage other than one of the little bernzomatic torch tanks.Your home owners insurance carrier wouldnt think to highly of it either!

Against fire code to store them inside any building here. I leave them on the trailer.

I have a plastic shed where I store my spare cylinders, all by themselves.

Don't think you need to store them but I do mainly because I don't want them to grow legs over the winter.

We have never removed our tanks unless we are having them refilled.

We leave them in the camper too. Safest place for them.

I live in west Michigan and we gave some brutal winters. I've never brought my propane tanks inside, not even on my grill.

If you keep your unit at a rental storage then bring them home and store them outside in a safe place.

If at home, leave them where they are.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Only thing you have to worry about for propane is that it will stop flowing at -40 F (or C, same temperature at -40) but that isn't an issue if you aren't burning the propane.

They don't even need to be full, they won't fill up with condensation like an empty gas tank.
