We have a 2306 that has two ceiling vents. One has a "fantastic fan" (in quotes because I don't know the actual brand) with the cover that lets us have it open in the rain and one without a hood or fan.
For boondocking we wish to have a fan and cover on the second vent. What's the best way to do this? Is there a retrofit "kit" or do I just buy a fan/hood and year into it?
I see Walmart had the entire fan assembly for like $100.....
There are several options. You can get the entire assembly. You can get a retro fit that will add a fan to your existing vent and add a vent cover or you can replace the existing vent with fantastic fan and a vent cover. Remove the trim on your existing front vent and check as there may ( may not) be wiring to power the front vent. Make sure your vent cover works with the vent you choose. The high flow fantastic vents need a high flow vent cover.
If you are handy or know someone who is you can look at the Hengs Vortex II fan. It is comparable to the fantastic fan only less expensive, and it has a reverse. I replaced one of the cheap fans in my TT with the Vortex II and it took about 30 minutes. Since I was replacing the fan I already had the 12 volts at the fan. If you look into the Vortex try RV Upgrades, pretty good prices.

I had one installed on my 2509 prior to delivery. They ran 12v DC from a nearby light. Its not always hot like the one in the bathroom but works when the light switch on the control panel is on. With both running there is a nice breeze in the trailer. Both are maxx fan branded ones with 4 speeds.

I can also vouch for the Hengs Vortex II. Was an easy upgrade and install and loved the ability to have reverse and pull cool air in after it cooled off at night. You also can buy just the covers for the vent and install. Since your doing both, a kit might be cheaper but I would price it both ways and may still lean towards the fan and cover since that would not require removing the vent shroud and recaulking etc. I've installed both and they are both about 30 min projects if your handy, under an hour if your not Mr. Toolbelt.
