RV Mattress
Looking for suggestions on an upgrade to our factory mattress. I understand anything but the factory mattress would be an upgrade! Not sure about the foam ones, never had one other than the one that came with our trailer and not sure about a normal spring mattress without a box spring. Thank you all in advance for your suggestions.

I also added a foam topper to our 2015 mattress it helped a lot for a while. But since we stay in the unit during the winter (winter Texans) at began to develop what I would call a whole in the underlying mattress and it began be be uncomfortable again. So we replaced the mattress with one custom built for us and it is great now, no need for the topper.

We got a 3" Gel foam and added over the existing mattress. In a word, great.

Never had a foam one either until my first one.....lol. The factory one hurt my hips. Too thin. On line, 10 inch foam is my nap is choice. It's been 3 years and no "dips yet". And....we have a 12 inch at the house now. The pillow top we had had " 2 lanes " to lay in after 5 years.

Best place to look, imho, is either Amazon or Wal Mart.com. Both sites have a ton of options and there are reviews from plenty of folks on most. Mattresses are such a personal preference

Our 5'r was slightly used when we got it, and even had a brand new fairly high quality mattress installed, it was actually comfy...but we had a spare Sleep Number bed in storage after we moved up to a king sized, so we installed that. Wow. Huge improvement. As I live in it 3/4 time while I am at my work site, having a good mattress was important and am very glad we had that option.

I can say I was definitely in the, not sure about a foam mattress camp, since I like my bed nice and plush and we also had a gel foam topper to hold us over until we got the new mattress that did seem to retain heat a bit more than I would like.
That all being said I am very impressed with the 8" Zinus deluxe memory foam mattress from Amazon. It's a touch on the firm side, but if you are a side or stomach sleeper the foam still allows you to sink in enough where it's very comfortable. It also doesn't seem to retain heat at all and we also transferred over a pillowtop style mattress pad that we had been using and that also helps give the mattress a bit more of a traditional feel.

Tuft and needle foam beds run about 600, they are the top rated bed by consumer reports. The materials and glue are non toxic, no off gassing, and if you don't like it they tell you to donate it to charity and refund your money. You can buy direct or on amazon.
The first one I had was a bit too firm, they sent an additional topper for free and when that didn't work they said to donate it, and would I like to try the brand new mint line that wasn't even available to the public yet. Great mattress, doesn't get hot and very comfortable. Awesome customer service.

X2. Got an 8" Cool Gel Memory Foam Short Queen from Walmart about 2 years ago. Fully expanded in 6 hours. No off-gassing. Sleeps every bit as comfortable as the high end full queen foam mattress we have at home. $268 out the door.
