Searching for New 5th wheel with front living

I am in the market for a new 5th wheel with front living. The couches that fold out to make room for 4 to sleep would benefit our family. I have looked at the Keystone Alpine and Grad Designs Solitude. I think they are too heavy. I will be towing with a 2018 Ram CC 2500 4x4 with the 6.7 Cummins. Would love suggestions and/or ideas from those who may have 5th wheels of this type.

We will be traveling with empty tanks. The only weight with be passengers, usual inside items and small amount of firewood on some occasions

Hi Scott

You will hard pressed to find a Fifth Wheel under 16,000 lbs gross that will meet your needs. Being a 3/4 ton truck your pin weight will be over the CCC on the truck after adding passengers and limited cargo.

Most of the big 5ers offer a front living - front livings can be pin heavy and have less basement storage also

Rockwood and Flagstaff makes a front living room but with only one sofa, this might be what you need for your current truck as others have mentioned already the larger ones are pin heavy. Good luck on your search.

Turn a front living around and elevate the living room for a huge amount of storage space and you have a heritage glen/hemisphere 372rd 1100 pounds 2100 hitch weight

This is a nice unit, but be aware that it only has one bath. Since the rear living room can function as another sleeping area, if you have guests they will need to use the one bath in the middle of the night.

For me, I chose a unit that has its own separate half bath in the rear. But you mentioned you want a front living room. If you do buy one of those, there are some with a full front glass window. This is nice conceptually, but many have complained that the glass takes the brunt of road debris and often cracks

I always liked some of the front living layouts. My fears as you get older every time you want to go watch TV you have to climb up and down the steps. To me that could get old as I get old

You probably brought the average age of Frogs at the Goshen Rally down by a year. You got nothing to worry about for awhile.

Oh I hear you don't worry I hope to have many more years dot dot. Although I've been using up some of my nine lives recently. My point though was something to think about not knowing the age of the op. I never like to assume but to me that's a pretty big consideration some people have a hard enough time climbing the steps to get into their bed.

We love our 2018 FR Sierra 377FLIK . Someone mentioned not wanting to go upstairs - in our previous 5er, the bathroom was upstairs with the bedroom. Anytime one wished to use the bathroom, he/she had to go upstairs! I find that I use the stairs much less in our front living since the bathroom is toward the rear beside the rear bedroom. I love having the three sofas in the living area and I feel that I have lots of room in the kitchen. We love to cook, so the large kitchen and all the cabinets are wonderful!

We have the 2016 Cardinal 3025fl. Pull with a Ford F-250 with support springs. Both sofas make into beds with a little bit of space between them. We love it.

Hey Scott, check out heritage glens line up for the front living!! I wish they would have come out before I bought mine. I have a 337Bar fifth wheel and I pull it with a half ton, meaning your truck is excellent for the extra weight!

Iíll post one that even has an option for two twin beds in the loft above the master bedroom! We all know not to trust posted dry weights but I must say mine was within 100 lbs of my dry posted weight of 10060 lbs empty! This one states a bit over 11k.

Front living room

Check out the Columbus by Palomino. A Forest River product. Looked at it and they are nice. Settled on the Columbus 366RL. A rear living room. The front living room has the 2 couches and 2 recliners.

I like to look at floorplans, even though I am not within a decade of getting a 5er. With that said, I absolutely love the front living area. I like the split into 3 zones of bedroom, kitchen/dining, and living room. With the living area in the rear, there's just too much crossover ... the TVs start drifting into the kitchen ... the kitchen island starts drifting into the living room, etc.

I think that Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite above (and the Flagstaff twin) are the only light-weight options I have seen for the front LR ... but you sacrifice the 3rd couch. When you add the 3rd couch, it also gets to 42-44' and much heavier in the various models that offer it.

Good luck.

I know that I like the front living room models...in theory.

But...

I also know several people that bought them...and every one of them got rid of them after one year.

They all said they loved them on the dealership's lot ... until they bought them.

After having them for a few months, they all wanted the front bedroom back!

I have the Rockwood 2898 ks with the rear den. Awesome floorplan. Whole back wall is the entertainment center just as the front on the front living rv's.

We have a 2018 Cardinal 3825 FL that has all you ask for and some but I went from an F 250 to a F 350 because it was overweight empty with the F250. Good Luck
